Ivalice Chronicles is also just as addictive since grinding is on demand. I was wrong when I told you that random battles are disabled by default. But you no longer have to rely exclusively on random battles. I wish they didn't hide the ability customization UI behind the equipment menu!

War of the Lions is really solid! Despite Ivalice Chronicles many improvements I kinda miss WotL's animated cut scenes.

Scheduling guests has been tricky, but we just recorded our third in a row and would love to have more people join the club. Let us know if you'd like to guest on the podcast to talk about games, whether classic favourites or new discoveries.

These two love triangles sooooo much!

I only owned a few JPN SNES and GB games back in the day. I don't recall them being so bulky. I think the big Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy manuals were just for the West. Now, Japan has a serious tradition of deluxe printed game guides though. Like the Mario 64 one with hand made dioramas!
A hand made Mario 64 game guide diorama spread for level 13. A hand made Mario 64 game guide diorama spread for level 1. A hand made Mario 64 game guide diorama spread for level 6. A hand made Mario 64 game guide diorama spread for level 2.

Square Soft definitely lacked faith in the English speaking console gaming audience. Ironic since PC RPGs were so entrenched in the West. It was a separate publisher at that point but Enix had to give Dragon Warrior (Dragon Quest 1) away with a Nintendo Power subscription.

If the EA and Microsoft news has you dissilliusioned about games, there are plenty of independant creators out there. We explored our local design scene at the Vancouver Game Garden but encourage everyone to dig around and find similar community initiatives in your own cities.

It's like M$ is trying to make every possible mistake. Complicity in genocide, enriching TERFs, Kushner and Saudi Wealth fund, console and game pass price hikes, shuttering studios and laying off thousands of devs, exclusives on PS... I've been an Xbox fan for 24 years but it's officially over!

Ok let's run through some games seen sprouting at the Game Garden. You can catch more impressions on the upcoming episode of @omnigamers.bsky.social, joined by our regular correspondent @quaidrayn.bsky.social

Phew, had a packed day at @vangamegarden.bsky.social which was overgrown with friendly faces, incredible artistry and an inspiring sense of community. Was fascinating to see several designs from last year's garden evolve and a diverse range of new creations.

The scenarios and puzzles are simple but they are representative of their time. The original pixel artist was brought back to update the characters for the new context so the history was top of mind. The orchestral music is also amazing. Remasters are an entry for a new gen. The grind is not needed.

Well there's still story and art. I find that older JRPGs share a lot of qualities with adventure games. Lots of puzzles, content gating, getting clues from NPCs, hunting for magic keys. I find that adventure games & RPGS are worth playing even with a guide at very least for their historical value.

Thank goodness for Fast Forward. It's the only thing that's letting me finish these old classic games.

It was great seeing so many inspired, creative games at #vancouvergamegarden today. It's running tomorrow as well. There are some game dev talks in the theatre as well. Well worth checking out. And it's FREE!
Banners from the games at Vancouver Game Garden. Demo station for Ambrosia Sky. Demo for Stardust Frontier, a Jackbox style co-op mech piloting game. I played the demo for Peglin studio Red Nexus Games new Fowl Damage (I just got the joke).

I would play your Star Trek campaign if there's room. I've GM'd the Modiphius system for a short adventure and I have source books from the old Decipher version, I think.
