It's always a treat to join Daniel and Mark for a chat about games. Thanks so much for having me on!

Alex has embarked on a quest to review every mainline Final Fantasy game, so we've known for a while that this episode needed to happen. You can follow his journey (currently up to FFVII) here

We chatted a little about The Game Makers on our upcoming episode, and I completely forgot to shout out this in depth discussion from recent guest Tim and friends.

In today's episode we cover The Game Makers by @beziergames.bsky.social which is up on crowdfunding for a few more days.

We also talk about some other games we've been playing including Age of Comics, Arborea, and Pagan: Fate of Roanoke.

You're always welcome when you find a spare week behind the couch. Speaking of which, just catching up on Boards Alive this morning and glad to feel justified in not taking a chance on the Mythwind fixing my issues with the base game 😬

Scheduling guests has been tricky, but we just recorded our third in a row and would love to have more people join the club. Let us know if you'd like to guest on the podcast to talk about games, whether classic favourites or new discoveries.

Have any thoughts on the first Final Fantasy, especially memories of playing close to release? We'll be discussing this classic and it's influence on the series/genre, particularly the difficulty of capturing the original experience.

Ok, time to put this to the test as @omnigamers.bsky.social prepares for covering our oldest video game covered yet.

FWIW it seems the included manual was a fairly robust guide for most of the game including a bunch of charts. To be fair, most of these were likely lost when borrowing from friends let alone Blockbuster.

If the EA and Microsoft news has you dissilliusioned about games, there are plenty of independant creators out there. We explored our local design scene at the Vancouver Game Garden but encourage everyone to dig around and find similar community initiatives in your own cities.

On the latest podcast, we’re joined by @quaidrayn.bsky.social to discuss what sprouted our interest at the @vangamegarden.bsky.social, a showcase of locally made video game prototypes. We talk indie games, idle games, peggle games, picross games and more.

Overwhelmed by the deluge of new games? In the latest episode we turn off the taps to review euro board game Barrage. It's rules can feel like a firehose of information, but take the time to dam the flow and you'll find an incredibly dynamic and interactive experience
Central board of Barrage, showing wooden dam tokens of various colours stacked alongside printed pools of water with droplet tokens behind each. Player board for Barrage, showing various wooden tokens representing dam structures aligned in slots and rotating wheel divided into 6 segment with wooden construction tokens in 4 of them

We'll be recording our episode on @vangamegarden.bsky.social tonight and may even have it crashed by a special guest. If you have any highlights from the show, we'd love to hear them.

Phew, had a packed day at @vangamegarden.bsky.social which was overgrown with friendly faces, incredible artistry and an inspiring sense of community. Was fascinating to see several designs from last year's garden evolve and a diverse range of new creations.

It was great seeing so many inspired, creative games at #vancouvergamegarden today. It's running tomorrow as well. There are some game dev talks in the theatre as well. Well worth checking out. And it's FREE!
Banners from the games at Vancouver Game Garden. Demo station for Ambrosia Sky. Demo for Stardust Frontier, a Jackbox style co-op mech piloting game. I played the demo for Peglin studio Red Nexus Games new Fowl Damage (I just got the joke).

We'll both be at the Vancouver Game Garden today if you want to say hi or tell us about your game!
omnigamers.bsky.social
We'll both be attending @vangamegarden.bsky.social this coming weekend and can't wait to see what Vancouver's been growing. If any local designers want to make time to chat, let us know, we'll be running through our experience on the next episode of the pod.
