State of the tech job market halfway through 2025? Still stagnant, still not much better than the last 2.5 yrs.

Tech employment has dropped modestly from its Dec 2022 peak, falling 1.9%, or 76,000 jobs, with no improvement in 2025, despite the hype around AI + data center investment.

Bar chart of month over month change payroll employment in manually defined tech industry. In H1 2025, 2,000 jobs were lost on average monthly. This is a continuation of stagnation/modest job losses in tech started at the beginning of 2023.

Sourced using data from Bureau of Labor Statistics, Current Employment Statistics from the July 2025 release. Line chart of payroll employment in manually defined tech industry. Tech employment is down 1.9% from the December 2022 peak or 76,000 fewer jobs.

Good news for the WPNBA! They've called in a Nobel prize winning economist who is a Harvard professor. She is working for them for free on the CBA negotiation. She agrees with the players so far and is calling BullShit on the owners. 🏀😺

Very excited that our paper (joint with Jarkko Harju and ‪@schoefer.bsky.social‬) on "Voice at Work" is published in the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics. We study what happened when workers in Finnish firms got a right to worker voice on the corporate board. 👇

𝐏𝐲𝐅𝐢𝐱𝐞𝐬𝐭 0.30.1 is on 𝐏𝐲𝐏𝐢 and I am extremely happy with this release, mostly because of two 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐟𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬: a Rust back end for all performance critical parts and quantile regression.

That awkward thing where you write an annual report called 'Low Pay Britain' but 'low pay' has been all but eliminated (on the standard hourly pay < 2/3 median measure).

(Our 2025 Low Pay Britain report is out on Thursday, launch event here www.resolutionfoundation.org/events/new-d... )
The share of employees in low pay (defined as people with hourly pay below 2/3 median) has fallen to an all time low of 3 per cent thanks to increases in the minimum wage.

On this day in 1953, around 1 million people in East Germany took to the streets to protest against the regime.

The largely peaceful uprising was violently suppressed.

West Germany celebrated the 1953 uprising as a public holiday until German Unity in 1990.

72 years ago today, brave men and women in East Germany took to the streets to stand up against the Soviet-sponsored socialist dictatorship of the SED-party. Their resistance was crushed by Russian tanks. But their legacy lived on and history proves that freedom will prevail!

Hop on, ride off! 🚆🚲

As of today, bikes are welcome on-board of EU trains. All new and upgraded trains in the EU will have dedicated spots for full-sized bicycles.

So, you can ride wherever the train takes you!

THIS IS AMAZING! Researchers have made a SIGNIFICANT breakthrough in the quest for an HIV cure. By developing a method that enables the delivery of an mRNA-based therapy to make the virus VISIBLE WITHIN white blood cells, this approach paves the way to FULLY CLEAR the virus from the body. 🧪🧵⬇️
