That's interesting. I didn't think it was about that so much, although it definitely could be. I read it more as him feeling like he needed purpose, and that the only purpose that appealed to him was being a hero. Also the weird "sex work is a perversion and am I just a gigolo?" thematic stuff.

Definitely not done anything to my knowledge. Mostly he just seems curmudgeonly, but sometimes the line between "grumpy old British white man" and "maybe kinda bigoted?" is pretty thin. And there's a *very* questionable sexual assault scene in his last book that made everyone unhappy.
