Yeah, the iOS-ification of Windows was user hostile enough before actual iOS got like this

People follow accounts for a wide variety of reasons, some of which are not only not bad, but good, and people using the mere act of a follow as sufficient evidence to suggest that the entire platform is suborned are reasoning outside the breadbox.

OK, she really said that they arrested “the girlfriend of the founder of ANTIFA”

The girlfriend

of the FOUNDER

of - anti fascism?

lest anyone think the girlfriend line was a hilarious joke I concocted...

@eliotpeper.bsky.social’s new book comes out to day. Here’s what I thought about it.

Recent Reads: Ensorcelled. Eliot Peper's novella is a love story, to the mountains of the High Sierra and to the power of storytelling and gameplaying. It's also the story of a life well-lived and, oh so much more, all packed into a little volume that shows we can still make beautiful books. Worthy.

I'm not saying anything that hasn't been said a thousand times before, but it's worth repeating. Dropping out of the [corporate] workforce as a woman not only eliminates her earnings while she is out of the workforce, but puts into motion a machine that depresses her earnings year after year.

this thread brought to you by my 'what do you think that word *means* my dude, because that's not what it means in *this* context' to one of those multi-author LinkedIn resources

process and feedback and governance are what make just about every system work, or fail when they're not there

encouraging community contributions is great but the reason it works on Wikipedia and is really weak on LinkedIn is that there's a strong review cycle on Wikipedia but when LinkedIn invites someone to 'add their expertise' to a topic there's no way to say 'that's wrong and you missed the point'

the fact that it appears to be up to every individual instance whether my experience of clicking on a link to a mastodon post in a web page and wanting to boost is helpful or 'fuck you figure it out yourself' is one of those tiny papercuts that drives people away
marypcbuk.bsky.social
as a person who uses both, the reason I spend more time is that that when Mastodon fails for me, it fails *annoyingly* and I get fed up and go back to something with a better experience

I *think* that the only Office icons that don't have letters on will be on iOS to match whatever the design system there is called at the moment; the Microsoft design blog says they *will* have 'letter places' elsewhere, so it's just rounded corners again

I hope they manage to scale it out as well; it's covered a relatively small number of people and doing it on a larger scale could really move the dial

For every €1 provided through a Basic Income For Artists pilot program in Ireland, the government got €1.46 back. So it’s being made permanent.

Over and over we see it. It saves public money to provide public housing. And it makes public money to provide basic income.

We can’t afford to NOT do it.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

This is what is says on the tin, but also: paying artists, creatives, producers & crew fairly & on time would deflate the false profit margins of *every* creative industry. Paying workers fairly wd "kill" industry *as an endless profit machine*. Not defending AI, saying this problem is baked in.

post Y2K, IT came under the CFO because 'you spent all that money and now you want more and nothing *happened*' and that's why security and development practices in enterprise were terrible for so long. I watched it happen, I wrote about it happening and I still look back at the impact

Even after all my years of covering cybersecurity, it still kind of blows my mind how young the kids behind these major attacks have become.

Plus the way it appears to be evolving into a homegrown issue - attacks by British people, rather than the 'traditional' faraway Russian perpetrators...
