The development should be centered around the transit line, not an arterial road. Concentrating development on arterials maximizes conflict between peds and cars/trucks, maximizing the number of pedestrian fatalities:

This is such a big @ttcriders.bsky.social and @mayoroliviachow.ca win!!

The Scarborough Subway extension isn’t going open until past 2030 and people would have been stuck on buses in traffic.

Now the busway will provide fast and reliable service for riders!
Y'all are giving us whiplash with all these announcements this week! This is going to make a massive difference to transit riders in Scarborough and we are thrilled!

It's also a testament to what can be accomplished without provincial meddling. Metrolinx, take note.

Scarborough busway to open earlier than expected, says Mayor Olivia Chow
Construction for the $93.8-million project to convert the defunct Scarborough Rapid Transit corridor into a busway began this year and wasn’t expected to finish until at least 2027.

55% of Ontarians didn't vote in the last provincial election. People have lost faith in government because of politicians like Doug Ford.

That's my challenge. Getting out there and earning people's trust. Showing them government doesn't have to be corrupt. That it can change things for the better.

that is how you operate a street running LRT like a subway line. Seattle’s line 1 is worthy of a number dedication…finch west lrt is not.
I wanted to compare what I saw on Seattle's Line 1 LRT with Toronto's Finch LRT.

In Seattle, you can see left turning cars waiting while fast-moving transit gets priority. Help TTCriders make it happen in Toronto: www.ttcriders.ca/greenlight

it’s insanity that we can’t get this in Toronto. The biggest city in the country with higher transit ridership😭

The Line 5 Eglinton Crosstown LRT contract specifies average speeds up to 25 km/h (49 min peak, 45 mins off peak over 19 km)

Their current test schedules are running 20 km/h (56 mins).

The 2012 benefits case said 29 km/h, averaging 34 in the tunnels and 25 on street. (1/2)

Two things

1) All the promising that the LRT lines would be fast was a lie.
2) Having the P3 be this crazy three way between Metrolinx - TTC - and a Private Consortium was a terrible idea. That we just NEEDED TTC to run it makes no sense. OL won't be like this

Metrolinx: here is an LRT capable of transit signal priority (TSP)

City of Toronto: let’s put speed restrictions & not use full TSP

Public: I want faster trains

Matlow: Let’s talk publicly about TSP

Myers: let’s do it privately, I don’t want to hurt anybody’s feelings

About a year ago Dianne Saxe asked for TTC board meetings to be scheduled and recorded in TMMIS like every other committee and now they're easier to find and more people follow the agenda and proceedings. Sometimes seemingly dumb little things matter.

Learned some illuminating things about Line 6 from City/TTC staff at today’s board meeting that’s worth sharing:

1. Current run time on the Finch LRT is around 56 minutes end to end.

I can’t recall as snowy a December. It isn’t really xc skiable (and today seems to be sleet which is satanic) but it’s … not the usual green/brown Christmastime. Anyway hopefully useful skiable snow soon #dlws

Massive development is planned for the Downsview Airport lands, unfortunately current plans to extend the Sheppard Subway stop at Sheppard West station. It would be a huge mistake not to extend the line an extra stop or two to serve this development from day one. Image via @futuremodelTO

TTC now needs to start getting serious about thinning out stops on the streetcar network. There are too many and it's a tragedy of the commons situation. Any individual stop has a good reason to exist, but collectively there are too many, impairing the whole system.

Fully agree. Here’s the current set of stops on the Spadina line, surrounded by 400m radius circles to indicate a 5min walking distance, with the Yonge line from Bloor to King for reference. Stops are too dense to get a reasonable speed, be nice to pare them down as proposed in the second image.

Transportation services needs to change how signal priority works to give vehicles more priority at lights. The TTC and the city also need to work together to improve subpar operating practices. This is what needs to be done to make the service faster. 2/2
