One of the producers on Guilty Gear Strive said it was basically impossible to source player feedback on balance changes online because nobody had original opinions and would just parrot what the most popular content creators said and so they had to rely on data and I think about that every day.

There's a lot to criticize in 4E, from how classes and races were split up to bad MMs to having a boring armor system (again), but that's not usually what people complained about. They parroted dumb complaints with little direct knowledge, and for it they should be pursued by hounds across the moor.
having played 4e, it ain't really all that, especially the early monster manuals. The internal drama at WotC really hamstrung what could have been an okay game.

The downside to D&D4E being so hugely influential in the indie RPG sphere in spite of Hasbro's best efforts to kill is that we've now got a whole new species of fantasy heartbreaker where the problem isn't a failure of imagination, but the fact that the author can't do technical writing for shit.
