It’s really hard to scold people over civility in a system that dehumanizes everyone and it rings pretty hollow when people are more upset by jokes than the day to day humiliation that millions of people have to go through

A lot of ignorance being displayed by the commentariat about North East #Syria (known by the Kurds as 'Rojava'). It is a self-governing, multi-ethnic (not just 'the Kurds'), woman-led democracy. It is extraordinary and must be protected.

It is shocking that Turkey’s attacks on the Kurds and the autonomous area of North East Syria are treated as kind of footnote to the Syria story. Be clear: a region of Syria is under major assault; the war is NOT over.

By 2026 the UK will have no ability to test the quality of its tap water, due to Brexit and all the laboratories being in the EU.

We will just have to trust the Water Companies.

I don't trust them, do you?

Short answer: yes

Longer answer: yes because you can't become a billionaire without exploiting thousands of people to accumulate that wealth (unless you inherit it) and in either case needing more than 999 million dollars while billions of humans suffer globally is profoundly sick
There’s a lot of discourse about CEOs and billionaires right now. It’s hard to have this convo on TikTok but I think Bluesky can handle it with nuance.

Are all billionaires bad?

Today Amnesty International, one of the world's leading human rights bodies, said Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.

Governments must end all arms sales and impose widespread sanctions on Israel.

That's the only way to force Israel to stop the genocide and war crimes.
