Hard year in a stretch of hard years. This year, my daughter lost her leg, my mom lost her memory, I lost some friends, my landlord lost a legal battle (mwhaha), & my country lost its mind. While I have lost a lot of sleep, I have for some reason not lost all hope. I’ll take it. Happy holidays.

Active shooter drill today. Locking down my special ed classroom. "I'm scared," a kid says to me. "Think of it like a fire drill," I say. "It's just practice. Just like a fire drill isn't a real fire. It's ok," I say, as if it were actually ok to have to train these kids to anticipate being hunted.
