this might be the clearest articulation of how AT works i've seen in recent memory (and the practical consequences downthread), bravo

Using book publishing as an analogy for AT Protocol, a PDS is like self-publishing your manuscript. You always retain a copy of it and can take it with you elsewhere (as long as you keep backups).

An App View (or API Server) is like a publishing house or bookstore. It's the distribution. 2/11

A lot of people are (understandably) focused on the Saudi Arabia and Kushner part of this, but the far bigger immediate impact will come from the new private EA being on the hook for $20 billion in debt. That could mean mass layoffs, more aggressive monetization, and other big cost-cutting measures

Le Guin undefeated at "the fuck you say to me" as subtext
suchmayer.bsky.social
Is science fiction dead or dying? Some wise words from Ursula K Le Guin to the TLS a decade ago:
What will your field look like twenty-five years from now?
My field? What is my field, I wonder. My favourite field is the one below the barn at the
old ranch in California. I hope in twenty-five years it looks just the way it does now, all wild oats and chicory and foxtail and voles and jackrabbits and quail.

no spoilers but I'm genuinely astonished at the level of prescience about sexism that the game seems to be displaying, I want to be like 'this is a silent hill for the girls' but maybe guys should play this shit just for the empathy experience or something.

just learned about the content warning that open Silent Hill f and this feels like it comes from a parallel world where AAA games took on a whole different meaning for "mature"

damn. more of this approach please

I've taught many people new to gamedev from kids to adult, from a practical educator lens I believe the main difference people credit to kids learning faster or easier than adults is they aren't yet consciously trying to avoid temporarily looking like a beginner at something

comic of two paths from an idea to results. the top shows a person sitting on a ledge labeled "idea," separated by a gap labeled "being cool" from another side labeled "results" with a plain vase on it. the bottom shows a person over on a filled in hole from "idea" to "results," with the fill labeled "being cringe" and the vase is sparkling.

Justin Kan won the fight, most exciting part was when the robots knocked against the fence in front of us and we jumped back. Very cool alpha demo, some of the dimensions of improvement are line of sight, some might be harder. Might coincide with Keen Technologies’ ML stack.

Dylan Shea is one of the kindest, smartest people I ever met in the hacker scene. After he moved from San Francisco, I got to spend time with his family when I would travel to the Boston area to record music. When I heard this news, I doubled over in shock. Join me in supporting his son’s memory.
