You may be a Hoff, but I am the Hoff. The definite article, you might say
Always try to be nice, but never fail to be kind

I hope everyone cheering about Indiana University football also cares about Indiana University the university. Universities are not sports clubs, they are centers of learning and research, and the people who hate knowledge and learning want to placate you with sports.

Quite aside from everything everyone else is rightly saying, this is just a puff piece for a reactionary think tank. Why is NPR giving them any column inches?

Everyone has a list of so-called "red flags" when they're dating. And for some, especially younger Americans, different political views is a relationship deal breaker.

Watching #twbtlats is just me asking Google increasingly weird questions about fish as I wonder why Salt is just a human with some scales. Why is this the design they decided on? (Unfortunately the answer is almost certainly “because she has to look fuckable”)

The message of It’s a Wonderful Life is that the guy who’s had memory issues since around the same time his brother died of a stroke maybe shouldn’t be in charge of depositing cash, or doing anything that requires short-term memory
To watch a “It’s a Wonderful Life” for the 50th time is to confirm that MAGA is totally bogus.
Even in 1946 nobody was rooting for Mr. Potter.

My favorite version of this is how every year I lived in the U.K., friends were surprised that we don’t have Pancake Day in the U.S. So I, an American Jew, had to explain to secular Christians what Fat Tuesday is and why I don’t celebrate it (yes we have Mardi Gras, that’s still a religious holiday)
I'm sorry, but this is the stupidest fucking talking point.

Guys, it's a holiday celebrating the birth of (from my perspective, and being blunter than I normally would given the context) a dead Jewish carpenter y'all somehow think is/was God incarnate

You can't make that non-religious, sorry.
Christmas is a non religious holiday. I stand by that.

Here’s an example of what I mean when I say Christianity is antisemitic: Christians call other Christians bad by calling them Jews

The Chicago Bears are considering a move to northwest Indiana amid growing concerns that Illinois lawmakers will not approve the financial incentives needed to build a new stadium in Arlington Heights, a top team official told the Tribune.

In 1995, the Chicago Bears threatened to move to northwest Indiana if the team didn’t get money for a new stadium. They’re doing it again.

And never eat pears!
The older I get, the more my politics mature from childish, naïve beliefs like "the world is complicated and leaders have to make hard decisions" to more serious, adult principles like "hurting people is bad and helping people is good."

Small liberal arts colleges, and also state institutions. The problem is (in order) capitalism, Reagan, university administrators, and now fascists (do i repeat myself?)
For a couple of years now, I've been fascinated with what's happening at small liberal arts colleges, which are running out of money for reasons unrelated to Trump funding cuts. Businessweek let me go deep on the problems, and one college that's trying to blaze a new trail.
Why a College Fighting for Survival Is Slashing Econ and Physics Majors
At Albright in Pennsylvania, the new president is cutting programs, selling art and real estate, and vowing not to hire anyone with tenure. Is this the way forward for liberal arts colleges?

It’s true what they say, Bluesky people are the worst. For example, today there were people talking about how A Prayer for Owen Meany is their favorite book. Imagine not hating that fucking kid. But you know what they say, there’s no accounting for other people’s bad taste.

Annoying how lots of otherwise good discussion of this Oklahoma case calls the TA who was fired “professor.” Of course this was all deliberate, but the instructor was targeted partially because firing a grad student is easy! They didn’t go after a trans associate prof! You have to understand this

PSA: Throw out your Thanksgiving leftovers. Today was the last safe day of eating. After tonight, you're courting food poisoning.

I don’t really care what you call yourself, abolitionist, anarchist, whatever - if your so-called radicalism consists of merely wanting to be the person with the gun, then you aren’t offering a path away from here.

Your failure is that all you want is to win. It’s not about winning.
