I mentioned this stat from Alisa Wood of KKR in a talk I did a few weeks ago, but did you know: There are more private equity firms in the United States than there are McDonald's? (~19,000 vs. 14,000) In 1980, there were 24 PE firms *total* in the U.S. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

This Harper’s pullout on media consolidation caught my attention from across the concourse. As I wrote last month, this might be in my top ten list of things to make sense of.

Very cool, very neat. I hate how @greenwell.bsky.social's book keeps appearing in the wild. Need to read it again cuz I don't have enough extreme rage these days. When this country undergoes Reconstruction v.2, PE has to be one of the biggest targets

BAD COMPANY made the Kirkus list of best nonfiction of the year. I tried to think of something funny to say about that to deflect how meaningful I find that and totally failed. Feels good man.

Story also mentioned the St. Louis fire in 1973 that vanished history:

"His memory and notes are what we have to go on. His notes mention every place he went from Seattle to Inchon, and they make no mention of Jeju"

Which reminded me of another one of my favorite features by @greenwell.bsky.social
The Night 17 Million Precious Military Records Went Up in Smoke
Fifty years ago, a fire ripped through the National Personnel Records Center. It set off a massive project to save crucial pieces of American history—including, I hoped, my grandfather’s.

I'm extremely freaking thrilled to have been named one of two runners-up in the Society for Advancing Business Editing and Writing's Best in Business Book Awards. (The fact that the other is the great @kateconger.com / @rmac.bsky.social duo makes it even cooler.) sabew.org/2025/11/winn...

Yes, and: There are lots of reporting jobs at startup nonprofit local news organizations doing really important work outside of corporate ownership, for any journalists willing to consider living outside of the nation's three largest cities!

This is one of the things I hate most about modern capitalism. The idea of making money has been fully peeled away from delivering any kind of goods or services that people would want to pay money for.

Happy pub day to @sarahweinman.com! Sarah is unfailingly supportive of other authors, a deeply kind and generous person in an industry with far too few of them. She's also a stone-cold genius. Buy WITHOUT CONSENT!

Hope this high school classmate of mine — who, I must repeat, works on affordable housing issues 3,000 miles away from NYC — is having a good night!
A tenant lawyer I went to high school with, who has never lived in NYC, told me that I’m a “Kapo” and that my Holocaust survivor grandfather was rolling in his grave, after I said more people voted for Mamdani because of affordability concerns than because they want to globalize the intifada.
If I may be a contrarian here I'd argue that the victory of a democratic socialist is not "like a spiritual Kristallnacht."
