Efforts to tamper with an intentionally broad policy by creating very stupid tiered systems of access (how many people have been press for 20 years? like 4?) is simply an attempt to limit access to indies who don’t operate like legacy media. It’s a way to delegitimize us, impede our work.

I said awhile ago that it strongly seemed like the Adams admin gave press cards to all the far-right nutjobs to weaken the efficacy of them to justify revoking cards for indies like me.

Wouldn’t ya know,

Anti-trans demagogue and fifth place swimmer Riley Gaines earned $470,000+ last year from a conservative non-profit.

Notably, $420k was incentive-based.

A neat little window into the way the transphobic grift is being compensated.

I wonder what the per-post rate is?

"This story doesn't need a sandworm"

This is almost always wrong. Arguably, EVERY story benefits from adding a huge subterranean worm with quasi-mystical or semi-supernatural powers, or equivalent (similar to Moby Dick).

Obviously the bigger the worm, the more literary quality it adds.

My favorite historical costume designer is Sandy Powell, and she has an amazing trick that it took me years to realize: Be conservative with color and lean into modern shapes with your hero, and put your villain in the most outrageously period-specific costume you can.

Worth noting that the student admits that she just threw the thing together in 30 minutes without reading the paper she was supposed to be responding to.

For years now, moderates have decried the division of identity politics of Democrats, ignoring of course that the Republican Party was defined by identity politics itself — the identity of whiteness. Now that it’s explicit the inability to call it out and to cover it aptly is starkly disappointing.
