“We’re not helpless… it’s you guys that are helpless”
That hits HARD
kristadb1.bsky.social
Reporter: And a sense of helplessness because there's nothing you can do about it.

Marche: Oh, we're not helpless. There's lots we can do. It's you guys that are helpless. You have a political system that can't respond to reality.

THIS WAS SUCH AN AMERICAN COMMENT BY THE REPORTER HOLY GOD.

That seems likely. I imagine the Trump 2.0 regime is going to continue to act like they’re in service of a Golden Boy who can sell anything long after it’s true, hopefully this leads the the conditions where we can try these people for war crimes.

Depressing, isn’t it?

Senators will vote today on whether to block Trump’s use of US Armed Forces to attack vessels in the Caribbean.

Trump may soon expand these illegal attacks into a full-on war with Venezuela.

Call your Senators and ask them to vote for the Schiff-Kaine resolution.

As you watch this horrific video of a protesting priest being shot in the head with a pepper ball by federal agents, know this:

Less lethal projectiles are absolutely deadly, and have killed many people. Specifically, Boston police killed a Red Sox fan with pepper ball 21 years ago this month.

You cannot reasonably play a video of a guy dancing to YMCA in a blow up T-Rex costume and expect a judge to say “yes clearly this is an imminent danger to ICE’s valuable work and the community”

A lot of Americans are royalists but don’t consciously realize it. They just sort of assume the very wealthy belong to a peerage class that’s divinely ordered to have all the money and property and there’s no use worrying about it — it’s the **other peasant groups** you’ve got to look out for.

I will not back down.

Trump is now calling for the arrest of elected representatives checking his power.

What else is left on the path to full-blown authoritarianism?

“But what if instead of resisting so hard, republicans had given in and passed Dems’ bill? Then Dems’ strategy would have been foolish.” Yeah but that didn’t happen so shut up. We are in the world we’re in, not the world we might have been in had different things happened.

I get the idea of “we shouldn’t have even tried to deal, we should have just said no from the start,” but if we want to actually convince people that that’s the case, showing-not-telling seems far, far superior.

Let me emphasize once again that if you’re inclined toward “no deal is possible with these guys” then trying to make a reasonable deal and getting this reaction demonstrates that far better than just asserting it and refusing to try would have.

Memes serve as a tool of dark participation and are used purposefully “to disrupt, undermine, attack, resist or reappropriate discursive positions pertaining to public affairs narratives in the news” (Peters & Allan, 2021, pp. 2–3)

You’ll never be able to convince me ripping an American citizen out of their Chicago apartment in the dead of night, zip tying their hands and refusing to let them call their lawyer is ‘America First’

The Post laid off seemingly the remaining of their liberal-leaning staff members on Opinion last Thursday, when some of them were observing Yom Kippur.

CNN: “An older couple making $85K/year will see their yearly insurance premiums jump from $7K to $25,000 — 30% of their income.” 😳#TrumpShutdown #TrumpHealthCareTax

This is what Dems are drawing attention to and want fixed. Now, not later.

Indeed. Also, unemployed people have a lot of protesting time on their hands, could be a very bad feedback loop for the regime.

They were better just one year ago!
irhottakes.bsky.social
I will grant that there were always bad things. I will grant that not dealing with the bad things allowed them to get worse. But I refuse to believe everything was always *this* bad, because I remember them being relatively better.

The formal law re: domestic use of the military is... complicated. But right now it's more about tapping into our deep cultural roots, the innate sense it's un-American, something evil dictators do, the notorious historical examples and even well-worn fictional fictional tropes reflecting as much.

During the campaign, the trumpies knew that they could use the “Democrats tell you the economy is doing great, but just LOOK at the size of your grocery bill!” line, but now that Trump is in office, everybody’s just supposed to forget about high prices?
mcjulie.bsky.social
Like, putting Bari Weiss in charge of CBS news — it seems like a clear move to try to ensure friendly coverage of the regime even as the reality of Trump’s shitty economic governance really sinks in with normal Americans.
mcjulie.bsky.social
Everything is really straining at the seams right now, and it feels like a feedback loop: the stupider and more fascist it gets, the stupider and more fascist it gets.
mcjulie.bsky.social
And one thing that seems really clear to me: performatively combating the fascism of the Trump admin would be a winning career move for any Democrat who decides to do it.
