People who try to whitewash our country's history don't actually love America.

They're like a parent who only loves their kid when they win a trophy.

Real love acknowledges failures, mistakes, and growth. Real love is proud of a simple, honest desire to be better.

I'm sure it is a concept widely familiar to the Ruby community that:

If it walks like a duck

and it talks like a duck

then it's clearly a neo-nazi for all intents and purposes.

Reposting this in a more constructive matter to simply point out that people who have vocally expressed clear white supremacist, transphobic, sexist, racist, and generally nazistic views, such as David Heinemeier Hansson, are not and never will be internally consistent and operate on cowardice.

When @wired asked me to look at Silicon Valley in the age of Trump, I saw the crash of the idealism that originally drew founders--and me--to the tech revolution. Selling out the dream will not serve those moguls (or us) well. www.wired.com/story/silico...
I Thought I Knew Silicon Valley. I Was Wrong
Tech got what it wanted by electing Trump. A year later, it looks more like a suicide pact.

Just 6 years ago anti-vaxxers were a laughable fringe group. Now their victory is so total they're setting government policy. This is like if schools started teaching Flat Earth. A complete failure of education and science comms. Kids will die because we couldn't convince their parents of the truth.

I've found that a certain kind of person finds comfort in ignorance, because knowledge carries with it work and responsibility. It takes work to acquire it, and once you do you must either act on the knowledge or accept that you refuse to do so, all of which is hard and painful.
I wrote about the humility of expertise and the arrogance of ignorance, the profound laziness that attends believing that you can find knowledge by ignoring the accumulation of inherited human knowledge, and the ways lazy arrogance fuels narratives of fascism. www.the-reframe.com/your-ignoran...
