It’s striking how many of the most mundane features of American democracy, built centuries ago to protect against remembered tyrants from centuries prior, are still the bulwark against Trumpian fascism, while all the newfangled modern institutions simply collapsed on first contact with him
JUST IN: Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Snell just confirmed, at the prodding of U.S. Magistrate Judge Keri Holleb Hotaling, that this motion for dismissal followed a "no bill" from a grand jury.

That means the grand jury refused to indict.
U.S. prosecutors in Chicago are dropping another case tied to Operation Midway Blitz, "without prejudice."

It's USA v. Nathan Griffin. Below is the motion, followed by excerpts from the complaint.

The feds don't say why they're dropping it, but they had until today to secure an indictment.

NEW, from me: One startling stat captures just how badly the year went for the GOP.

Democrats flipped 21% of all GOP-held legislative seats at play.

That's thanks to gains they made in six states this year, and I break it all down in my latest:
In 2025, Democrats Flipped 21 Percent of GOP-Held Legislative Seats - Bolts
At the start of Donald Trump’s first presidency, in 2017, large Democratic victories in New Jersey and Virginia, paired with overperformances in special elections, foreshadowed the blue wave of the......

Yes, the 22nd explicitly includes time as acting president toward the two year rule.

So, do periods when a vice president acts as president per invocation of the 25th amendment count toward the time period for the 22nd amendment? Like if Vance served for 5 days before Trump got Congress to restore him, is his date 1/25/2027 instead?

Couple of things here:

1. Trump says he took another cognitive test recently

2. In front of "large numbers of doctors and experts"

3. He called the examinations "long...and very boring"

4. If you're given 3 cognitive exams in one year by panels of doctors, something is VERY wrong with you

I know we’ve been talking about the 25th Amendment being invoked for years now, but we should probably be talking about it a lot more and a lot more seriously right now.

DOJ makes it clear: If Judge Boasberg wants to pursue a contempt case against Kristi Noem, he's going to have to pierce privileged conversations she had with Blanche, Bove and DHS lawyers – something DOJ says shoudl only happen at a trial. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

They want to force Boasberg into trial because he’d have to appoint a prosecutor and SCOTUS will probably take the power to appoint a judicial prosecutor away.

It’s worth considering that privilege does not extend to conversations where a client is planning to break the law, in this situation, violate a court order.
