I don’t know who needs to hear this but you should try — within reason — to make personal choices that are better for society, even knowing that personal choices are not sufficient for addressing large systemic issues. Just be normal about it.

That line about infrastructure to slow down drivers - while technically correct - is rich coming from someone who restricted the ability of cities to put in a particular one last year which actually works. If Ford doesn't want speed cameras, then REPEAL BILL 212 NOW! #shame #BikeTO #TOpoli #ONpoli

Ontario Premier Doug Ford responds to our story that someone driving a vehicle assigned to one of his cabinet ministers was recorded stunt driving, pivoting to talk about municipal infrastructure. #OnPoli

NEW: Privacy officials with the Ontario government won’t release details of who was responsible for cabinet minister vehicles caught speeding, saying it would violate personal privacy and could threaten the “safety or health of an individual.” #OnPoli

Ontario government won’t say which cabinet minister vehicles were speeding, citing safety | Globalnews.ca
Documents show vehicles assigned to Premier Doug Ford's cabinet ministers were caught by automated speed cameras 23 times, including one driving at 70 km/h in a 40 zone.

It is an inexcusable omission, and editorial malpractice, for Reuters to omit mention that the President doing this kind of thing on a media platform he owns & has not divested is unprecedented, likely illegal and an ethical violation. The message itself is unprecedented and illegal. Why not say so?

Tips for being more eco-friendly:
-turn down your thermostat when you can
-use low-flow fixtures
-legalize medium density single-stair apartments near transit, with low parking requirements
-sort your recyclables

This is really good to see. It brings predictability to development, not just for developers but also for residents who know what kind of development they can expect to see. Hoping this work will continue and reliance of site-specific zoning will get further reduced.

Vancouver City Council approved establishment of standardized apartment zoning districts today, as well as a significant City initiated rezoning in the Broadway Plan and Cambie Corridor areas. I delivered these remarks in closing during the item at Council:

This style of apple fritter is a highlight at local festivals too

I can't stop thinking about this. We're pursuing zero fire risk in multifam, while tolerating much more in single-fam. People respond by building and living in single-fam, where they're exposed to not only one of the highest fire death risks in the developed world, but also TONS more car crash risk

Love this new report on buildings' relative fire safety from @alexhrwtz.bsky.social and Pew colleagues.

The Waterloo Region ring-style apple fritters are elite. Regular apple fritters are just donuts.

Pro-tip: the fritters at the Kitchener Market are really good too

Pro-tip 2: if you get a chance to have fresh ones with maple syrup, take it

Last week's column was about apples & the apple fritter divide we've got here. So, are you team ring or team doughnut ?

You can listen to it here.

Could Bluesky write some of this playbook up and have an entry point for them to get verified, know how to get discovered, etc?

It currently seems like a tough sell for many governments and agencies, and I think that could help

Separate infrastructure makes sense but in many places with lower volumes impractical. Speed limits do make sense, but who enforces and how?
mdruker.app
Interesting idea, but I suspect speed bumps are more likely to cause injury to cyclists than they are to motorists
mdruker.app
In some places that's a good (if expensive) approach, but I think we need something for everywhere else too

Anyone know of a _good_ policy or design strategy anywhere in the world that has helped with bike speeding behaviour on shared paths?

Always interesting how the bottom floor of a Vietnamese tube home can be a garage/living room or family store, sometimes a combination of all three.

I'm glad that Ontario exists because when I'm despirited by Québec provincial politics, I look at Ontario and I'm suddenly relieved, because it could be worse.
