In the Dallas-Fort Worth area, where hospital leaders empowered doctors to intervene before patients’ conditions worsened, it rose just 29%.

The fascist crackdown on universities and foreign students is shocking in this country. In addition to the grad students at Columbia, Tufts, a student at the University of Alabama has been arrested. The U of Maryland + others, has been asked to justify the reason Chinese students are studying there.

I recently saw an exhibit installed by apprentice museum staff at the oldest museum in Baltimore. It was funded by the IMLS. Without that, the underfunded artists would not learn about the business of their craft from experts.
“By eliminating the only federal agency dedicated to funding library services, the Trump administration’s executive order is cutting off at the knees the most beloved and trusted of American institutions and the staff and services they offer...”

Region 5 covers Alaska, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, and U.S. Territories and Freely Associated States in the Pacific. HUGE loss to medical research and education
we just lost all 7 of our Network of National Library of Medicine, Region 5 (NNLM) library workers.

the grant that covered their salaries was terminated.

this is heartbreaking and demoralizing.

A comprehensive story of the two times in the history of the National Archives when a blatantly partisan archivist was appointed. Spoiler: it didn't go well either time. ICYMI Anthony Clark:

This is very important. Part of the history of ideological exclusion in the US (esp. from the 1950s through the 1980s) is the chilling effect, and the damage done to scientific & academic exchange, research, conferences/collaborations, in addition to damaging the reputation of the United States. 🗃️ ⬇️
A lot of global academic conferencing is centered around the US, and US academic orgs have to be thinking very seriously now. You cannot continue to carry on with in person conferencing as if foreign scholars have no impediments to travel.
I know we like to pretend everything is "normal" again but..
