Biblionerd; interested in what books do to people, what people do to books. Early modernist by training, chaser of waterfalls and nurturer of plants by passion. All opinions my own and quite capricious.

The one thing I had scheduled to make myself do today, the last day of winter vacation, was schedule a physical to find a new doctor. But the health insurance website is down, so now I will get nothing done all day. I don't make the rules.

Doing some last minute shopping around my home town with the parents. After overhearing a conversation about some conference travel, the teenager managing the cash register told me I looked like I could be an Archeologist. I took that for the glowing compliment it was.

Well, except for needing to drive a half hour outside the state capitol to even find a DMV, the experience of getting a license in RI was relatively smooth. Got called an over achiever for bringing back up paperwork in case one of mine got rejected. My burns from the DC DMV are still showing.

Enormous news for US literature. A new, Mellon-led, $50 million fund for nonprofit literary orgs and publishers. Closest thing we've ever had to it was Mellon and Wallace in 1991, which, in today's dollars, was still less than half this. Open call begins Nov 10. literaryartsfund.org/about/

Cleaning up old scratch pads in prep for my move, and I come across one that says "API is currently in alpha. ... Ability to save search, iterative... next six months is prioritizing user input...." and I can think of at least three different projects this could be. lol.

Last night, while playing games w/ friends, one casually asked, "hey, is your cat supposed to be wearing something around his middle?" No. No he was not. It was the twisted paper handle of a paper shopping bag he had destroyed by running through it and getting stuck. Orange cat in a tuxedo cat body.
