Today is my least favourite day of the year, when anti-abortion/forced birthers converge on downtown Ottawa, even pulling kids out of (publicly funded) Catholic schools to join in. You can counter this nonsense by joining me in donating to Planned Parenthood Ottawa.

The good folks at Hijinx at 290 Kent Street say that their pantry is nearly bare and they need donations to help vulnerable neighbours. Here is their priority list. You know what to do, Centretown …

I feel like we need to keep saying this because it’s so insane: This is a legal U.S. resident who has been detained for over a month now for his political opinions.
The Department of Homeland Security denied Mahmoud Khalil permission to attend the birth of his first child, who was delivered at a New York hospital on Monday, according to emails reviewed by The New York Times.

Mr. Khalil, a permanent resident detained in Louisiana, had requested a monitored furlough for the birth. His request was denied in less than an hour.

We are so lucky to have ANCHOR in Centretown and the data is already showing the tremendous impact it could have if we could scale it up city-wide.

De-tasking police and sending mental health workers to non-violent calls is a win for everyone.
Signs are good that the ANCHOR program offering an alternative to police response to mental health calls is delivering benefits. The Citizen has a look at it this morning, and I've posted the City's memo to Council to which the article refers here: www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/iw5fe....

I just saw a post on Reddit from someone upset that there were people using drugs the Scotiabank ATM at Somerset and Bronson.

The Somerset West Community Health Centre just closed its supervised consumption site on Friday, after being forced to by the Ford government.

Decisions have consequences.

I’m a part time librarian and I just want to echo what I’ve seen other librarians say recently: there is a HUGE uptick in requests for social justice, climate justice, abolition, history, etc books and I just want to say nobody is giving up the fight. If anything people are fighting harder #library

I'm disgusted by Trump's "mass deportation plan" and how it is hurting so many people.

Our food system, based on cheap labour, can't possibly be sustained much longer.
