The very first lecture I had at art school, told us that we weren't there to learn to make beautiful images. We were there to learn to communicate ideas. (That could sometimes be beautiful but also not.)
If we wanted to make "soulless beauty" we were pointed to the door.

It’s really hard to describe to people who are not artists how survival mode does *not* inspire creativity, as the myth would have us believe. It suppresses creativity as you try to limit every possible risk – and the opportunities that come with them.
It turns out building habits and stuff actually requires not being in survival mode, who knew?!

I do. We must reduce the scale of discourse by limiting virality. Once you’re speaking to maximize engagement, your speech will always be maximally radical and the constant overdose of maximalism will lead to desensitization and nihilism. The only problem is companies will hate this solution.
the internet (and social media in particular) was supposed to connect us but instead of creating community too many online spaces just manufacture "lol nothing matters" nihilsm that destroys it. I don't know how to fix it.
