A dessert plate with "Happy Birthday Thomas" on it.

Interestingly, if you Google "double exposure," only a couple of the results are actually real double exposures.

feels a bit weird that we keep having these stories about individual cyber attacks but without anyone really joining the dots and going "okay, shall we maybe talk about this as a major global story"

Japan is just a few days away from running out of Asahi Super Dry as the producer of the nation’s most popular beer wrestles with a devastating cyber attack that has shut down its domestic breweries www.ft.com/content/bb86...

I spoke to a few people, including journalists, at Labour conference who had seen and believed claims on X that Multiverse – Tony Blair's son's company – had been chosen to run the government’s new digital ID scheme

@fullfact.org have checked this claim and it is untrue

Another one for the genre of overpaid "journalist" connecting random things that annoy them to a current issue. Spectator is great at this.

Right, this is a persistent problem in this discourse.

I wrote about the urge to “punch up” and assume the only loneliness that matters is your own, and everyone else’s is self-imposed.

I've acquired film for my grandfather's Penguin camera - let's see if it works!
Two vintage black folding bellows cameras side-by-side. The camera on the left is a Kodak Junior, and the one on the right is a Kershaw Eight-20 Penguin

Obviously this is the worst of it, but every time I read the NYT (which is not very much) I'm struck by how this prevalent passive voice is part of a writing style that reads like it's written by someone who hates journalism and is loathe to tell the peasants the news. It's horrible to read.

Absolute all-timer sentence in today's @nytimes.com
"some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily execute civilians" says today's New York Times, continuing their long tradition of whitewashing fascism

1. Privatise the BBC
2. ????
3. Everyone now watches Novara Media for some reason(?)
menkvi.bsky.social
There's a strange contingent of ostensibly left-wing people online who want to privatise the BBC in reaction to this, for some reason.

Not really sure how this would solve anything, nor do anything but make the problem worse.

It is possible to cherish the BBC as an institution while also saying that BBC News is failing very badly, day after day, in its duty to inform and that it always fails in a right-wing direction. It desperately needs to recover its integrity

Munich by Robert Harris is a strange book; it's not poor by any means, but at times reads a bit like a self-insert fanfiction.
A lot of "well I say, this is most extraordinary, young man!" with the same cadence as though Sonic the Hedgehog just walked through the door.

If you are visiting the Paris area, there is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see the Très Riches Heures du Duc de Berry. I recommend it.
