Rereading the wsj article on the corrupt dealings between the Trump admin and Russia, and this line provoked a grim laugh:

« Witkoff has tried to inspire Ukrainian officials with the idea of soldiers disarming to earn Silicon Valley-scale salaries operating American built AI data centers »
"By dangling multibillion-dollar rare-earth and energy deals, Moscow could reshape the economic map of Europe—while driving a wedge between America and its traditional allies"

Read this excellent @wsj.com account of the business deals behind the "peace"negotiations

Make Money Not War: Trump’s Real Plan for Peace in Ukraine
The Kremlin pitched the White House on peace through business. To Europe’s dismay, the president and his envoy are on board.

A rare piece of positive news, if indeed the case.
(My entirely unoriginal takeaway from the WSJ report is that the Trump admin is orders of magnitude more corrupt than I thought possible)
Lost in the weeds of the WSJ report on Russian attempts to bribe the Trump administration with offers of bazillion dollar business deals are signs that various European intelligence services seem entirely aware of the details of conversations between Witkoff and the Russians

"Dave Nicholson has been collecting rave flyers since before he could legally step foot in a club. In 1998, he set up Phatmedia as part of a project at art college. It has gone on to become the largest database of old school rave flyers on the internet."

One of the more balanced discussions I’ve read about whether there is a bubble in AI investment or not. There’s a plausible scenario where future productivity enhancements in AI hardware render obsolete datacenter and hardware investments, all while AI use cases roll out

This is very funny because the last thing musk or any of the SV jabronis, for that matter, want is everyone to be wealthy
"There is only basically one way to make everyone wealthy, and that is AI and robotics," Musk says, conveniently replacing the word "me" with the better-testing "everyone."

Wonder how differently the BBC would be reporting on the release of the Epstein email cache were it not for the crisis created by the allegations of bias and the Trump legal threats

This morning when I woke (European time) literally nothing. No flash announcing Mamdani’s win. Had to open Bluesky to get an idea of the magnitude of his win
November 5, 2025 at 9:47 AM
One more thought- it’s incredibly funny to this european bystander to observe the outright panic that some so-called moderate democrats feel at the prospect of a Mamdani win. The panic on the part of the billionaire class is the cherry on the cake
November 4, 2025 at 11:31 AM
Trump endorsing Cuomo probably helps Mamdani on the margin.
Put differently, the voter segment that was leaning towards Mamdani and is now going to switch to Cuomo based on Trump’s endorsement is probably nonexistent

Both this and the Niskanen posts are great. I prefer this one a touch because it builds off the two books to a question that I'm also often left with - running a brutal economic model should have an end goal that is less brutal but it runs the risk that you lose the dynamism that got you there.
