I’m watching Doctor Who again from the beginning. No 29 “The Tenth Planet” Oct ‘66. I’ve loved this story since I read the Target in the seventies. The Cybermen are creepy and yet pitiful. Fabulous moment: the Doctor regenerates.
Just brilliant. So, so good.
Crumbs- that’s Hartnell done!
Pat next!

Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

I’m watching Doctor Who again from the beginning. No 28 “The Smugglers” Sept-Oct 66. I only know this from the recon, having not read the novel.
I think it might have been great fun in the original format.
Crumbs, only one more Hartnell to go after this!

I am not a toy, I am not a fashion statement, I am a little green blob in bonded polycarbide armour. Please think twice before giving a Dalek this Christmas.

I’m watching Doctor Who again from the bevy. No 27 “The War Machines” Jun- Jul’66.
Fantastic! Oh blimey, this is so good! And yes, it’s the first Pertwee story. The Doctor hangs out with politicians, orders people around, goes to bars in London with dolly birds and soldiers. It’s brilliant!

I’m watching Doctor Who again from the beginning. No 26 “The Savages” May-Jun ‘66.
Brilliant. Proper sci-fi adventure in space. Sadly only the soundtrack survives, so watched the animation- still drives along at a fair pace. Steven has gone! Another companion who never made it back home again.

MINNEAPOLIS: “All I did was step outside as a Somali American citizen, and I got chased by a masked person, assaulted, kidnapped. It was inhumane. If this is what’s happening to a 🇺🇸 citizen on camera, imagine what could happen to your loved ones.”

I’m watching Doctor Who again from the beginning. No 25, “The Gunfighters” Apr-May ‘66. As a child, if I wasn’t fighting Nazis, I was a cowboy. Everyone was.
Back when Target novels were all there were, I wasn’t fussed by this. Love it to bits now. It’s just enormous fun, dodgy accents and all..

I’m watching Doctor Who again, from the beg. No 24 The Celestial Toymaker Apr ‘66.
Never quite get this one and it still causes my mind to wander off. Watched a mix of the recon, new animation and surviving episode. Maybe that’s why? I never quite get the sense of threat, although it’s fun.

Busy church weekend. The Christmas pet service for dog walkers (Very well attended by dogs and humans), Messy Church for families with younger children (Packed) and Advent Evensong by candlelight (Very busy). And all that on top of regular church services.
It’s going to be a busy Christmas…

Advent Evensong. Church full of mystery and wonder tonight. Bells ringing, full choir and candlelit.
The Christmas journey begins.

I’m watching Doctor Who again from the beginning, No 23 “The Ark,” Mar ‘66.
Actual science fiction. Superb idea having different cast in two parts. The Monoids are everything you could hope for in a Doctor Who monster. Great music. Fabulous moment: The security kitchen.

I’m watching Doctor Who again from the beginning. No 22 “The Massacre” Feb ‘66. I enjoyed the novelisation, the BBC narrated soundtrack by Peter Purves and the recon. Fabulous moment: Hartnell as the Abbot. It makes no sense but is brilliant. Otherwise quite savage!

I’m watching Doctor Who again from the beginning. No 21 “The Dalek’s Master Plan.” Nov ‘65-Jan ‘66. Oh my! That was superb! Brutal, epic, suspenseful space opera. Innocent Katarina, brave Bret, poor Sara..! Adored that. Obvs mostly recon but still swept up by it all. So sad so little survives

I’m watching Doctor Who again from the beginning. No 20 “The Myth Makers” Oct-Nov ‘65. Witty script, puns, jokes and first mention of an orgy. Vicki has left us! Poor Vicki. I hope she’ll be alright. Fabulous moment: Hartnell himself, instantly at ease in a comedy. Also the “Woe/whoa” joke.

I’m watching Doctor Who again from the beginning. No 19 “Mission to the Unknown” Oct ‘65. No TARDIS crew, but the Daleks are back, baby! I watched the recon, animated and live action recreation of this brilliant story. Fabulous moment: The alien delegation, especially Christmas Tree Guy.
November 19, 2025 at 3:26 PM
I’m watching Doctor Who again from the beginning. No 18 “Galaxy Four” Sept-Oct ‘65. Season 3 already! Lovely story, could almost be Star Trek if only the Doctor had tried to snog someone. Fabulous moment: the Drahvins space skirts and Steven getting beaten by a woman in a fight.
November 19, 2025 at 3:17 PM
I’m watching Doctor Who again from the beginning. No 17 “The Time Meddler” Jul ‘65. We finally meet another of the Doctor’s race, every bit as eccentric as the Doctor himself. Smashing cast giving it their all. Fabulous moment: the gramophone. Also, great use of stock footage.
