Miyazaki: in this movie two young girls (one is a toddler) are uprooted from everything they know to start new lives near the rural hospital their mother is in; she is possibly dying of TB. Their dad works several hours away and they are largely unsupervised.

Let me be clear: The notwithstanding clause is outright evil.

Alberta tried to use it to deny same-sex marriage and compensation to victims of their disbanded Eugenics Board. Quebec uses it to restrict Muslim women from public sector jobs. Ontario used it to tamper with municipal elections.

Canada's Charter of Rights and Freedoms shouldn't have had a notwithstanding clause in the first place. You don't have rights if the government can invoke a rule to ignore them.

First attempt at quick pickling spicy carrots. Threw them in a container with a mixture of boiling water, rice vinegar, salt, dill, garlic and sriracha. 🥕

Peeled carrots cut into matchsticks which have been quick pickled overnight.
