Juste pour dire. Le salut ''romain'' sous cette forme n'existe dans aucune source ancienne. On élevait plutôt la paume droite comme dans l'image ci-joint. 1/3

The Trier Gold Hoard is the largest #Roman gold hoard ever discovered. It comprises more than 2650 aurei (gold coins) with a total weight of about 18.5 kilogram. The aurei were hidden in 196AD during the revolt of Clodius Albinus against emperor Septimius Severus. 🧵1/2

This stunning amphora-shaped silver and gilded rhyton with lion-griffin handles was found in a Thracian tumulus (burial mound) in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. A Greco-Persian mashup, it displays the shape of an Achaemenid vessel, with Greek decorations. From Anatolia, possibly a diplomatic gift. 🏺 1/

Whenever he does this shit I think of Crassus, 1/3 of the triumvirate with Caesar and Pompey; briefly the richest man on earth his hubris was so chronic he walked into avoidable slaughter at the hands of the Parthians who, we're told, poured molten gold down his corpse's throat to mock his greed.

"Archaeology has always been about people. We’ve become so specialized that there is a tendency sometimes to forget the people. Archaeology helps explain why we are similar and why we are different."

We have a cover!!! The Oxford Handbook of Biblical Monsters is in production. We tried to put together articles that would foster a dialogue between traditional scholarship and more contemporary monster/horror. Now it's waiting, and preparing for the fun that will be proofing and indexing.
