Seems bad:

"We identified more than 30,000 tire wear particles in 24 liters of stormwater runoff from roads and parking lots after two rainstorms. In heavy traffic areas, we believe the concentrations could be much higher."
One of the biggest microplastic pollution sources isn’t straws or grocery bags – it’s your tires
Rain storms wash those tire shards into streams and ultimately into lakes and oceans. That’s bad news for fish and other aquatic life.

Growing up in the early 1990s, the ozone hole was a big environmental problem we all learned about. The world took action and the problem is receding.

See also, US air and water pollution pre-EPA.

Climate change is obviously a much harder problem to solve. But we can. And we must.
The Antarctic ozone hole won't disappear until ~2060-2075, but it's not growing thanks to the Montreal Protocol phasing out ozone-depleting substances.

There's a chance recovering from CO₂ emissions will take a similar path but will take much much longer.

Indoor air deserves much more attention and more scientific research.
One way forward is to increase the number PhD students. I’m happy to see @marinavance.bsky.social recruiting 👏
I hope to see similar posts by Finnish groups as well.
I am looking to recruit 1-2 new PhD students to start in Fall 2025 at CU Boulder in either Mechanical Engineering or Environmental Engineering. Our group works on aerosols (particulate matter): physical properties, indoor/outdoor transport, human exposure, etc.

This new study finds that atmospheric rivers are shifting poleward, changing weather patterns around the world.

The shift is worsening droughts in some regions, intensifying flooding in others, and putting water resources on which many communities rely at risk.

"Periodic reminder: A 1 per hour air change rate (ACH) does NOT mean that 100% of the pollution is removed in 1 hour. Due to mixing it takes up to 3 hours to remove 95% of the pollutant. 6 ACH takes 30 minutes (not 10 min)."
