Solid choice. Especially given any combat oriented ship is gonna have armor rated to resist ship scale weapons. Downside is mobility due to weight, but if your mech is short on evasive capabilities it's a solid counter to direct fire weapons. And an effective use of scavenged resources.

At the high end of tech, the weapon saves on expensive ammunition in certain situations, and frees up processing power for other features such as active protection or targeting for other weapons.

Also lacks the same cautions regarding collateral.

For low tech improvised implication it is great to add fighting power where targeting hardware and software might be lacking capabilities against certain units such as evasive or high countermeasures targets.

If you can't break through armor with such weapons you can always fuck up joints, detonate ERA, and stun enemy pilots briefly to follow up with a close range attack to vital systems. And what they lack in punch is made up for in not needing ammunition or advanced targeting.

Tbh blunt melee weapons have always been the way to go with beating armor since ye oldé days. I like my oversized Mecha anime swords with plasma edges, but bonk is great. Honestly, a mech with a a pole-hammer is something we need more of. But a club with replaceable strike faces is a solid choice.

Melee in Outer Era is essentially "bonk, but with extremely hard materials and narrow impact area". Using swords against armor is kind of a ridiculous concept to me. And beam sabers are too Star Wars coded for my tastes. Melee weapons typically have mechanisms to swap out damaged "strike faces"

'Sonoria' custom melee warsuit. Built for closing ranks and eliminating enemies with it's massive sword, the Sonoria also carries a shotgun slung under the left forearm, missiles in the shoulders, and a small shield.

We are literally watching Newsom pal around with right wing podcast hosts and refuse to sign bills to ensure Trans people have healthcare. We have seen exactly how much a willingness to disparage the disenfranchised manifests as policy with these liberal politicians.
