One of the takeaways of my current book is that the ability of the federal government to exert real power in domestic settings has always been largely overblown.
They don’t have the juice or manpower for it. This is not late 1930s Germany. There is no state monopoly on media. They are wildly unpopular.

ICE executed an unarmed woman in Minneapolis today, apparently because they “feared for their lives”. Well, when you terrorize people for a paycheck and the perk of causing terror, I’d say you’ve earned that fear and should accept the consequences of being a paid-off coward in a mask.
