The first Monday of this new year seems like a good day to start this art project. A little bit of fun and something to brighten up your week.

So, how good are you at recognising people? Can you tell me who this public figure is just by the line of their nose?

I was on my local bookshop this week and I always go and check out the horror shelves. They had three shelves of horror bu only three Stephen King books (2 titles) to my surprise. Usually there’s at least a full shelf of his books.

So, why is this a good thing? 1/2

Remember when I said a bit ago I didn't have anything to knit. Well, this is what happens when you have a bored knitter, a cone of thread weight lace and me wondering what would happen if.

Leaf lace shawl, in the round on size 0 needles (sorry, I've forgotten the mm conversion). Pin

So who does this nose belong to? Cynthia Erivo. She's due to return to the stage this year in the Sydney Theatre Company's production in Kip Williams adaptation of Dracula at the Noel Coward theatre in the West End.

Hi, bushfire survivor here and NSW RFS volunteer.

If you think you are going to stay and defend your property...Don't.
You are not prepared for the intense radiant heat, the ember showers, the smoke, the collapse of all of your energy.

If you have been instructed to leave.
Leave early.

As a former Director of Adelaide Writers' Week I am appalled that the Adelaide Festival Board has rescinded Dr Randa Abdel-Fattah's invitation to the 2026 AWW, explicitly linking its decision to the shattering crimes in Bondi.

A shocking decision that will and should have far-reaching consequences.

Something that I've been doing on an off for the last year less frequently than I would like, is to have a Scrivener document and just write story.

It's whatever pops into my head. No plan. No set outcome. Just a space to let my brain play and it's been interesting to see what emerges. 1/?

I am currently attempting to take the cat, Riley, on a walk outside. He’s currently parked under a QLD blue wattle and won’t move.

He does this. It’s finally nice out and he intends to sit for a bit. So I’m currently waiting for him to be done.

You can fit so many more books on your shelf with mass market paperbacks!
Mass market paperback is actually the ideal book format
This place needs some Innocuous Discourse pronto. Quote this with a take that’s not political or aggressive

I do NOT need to bring inside every interesting leaf I find just so I can draw them because their shapes are fascinating.

These are Eucalyptus leaves. Most of them Marri.

A while back one of the cats caught a mouse and brought it inside, followed by her brother who wanted to play too. She proceeded, after growling at her brother because she doesn't share, to lose said mouse somewhere in the house.

I found that mouse today. 1/2

I BO a brioche shawl today, finally. It’s been a fun knit and the cats love it. But now I need to work out what to knit next. And I have no idea because it is summer.

Question for people who have food #allergies or #intolerances.

What’s the first thing you’d eat if your allergies/intolerances disappeared?

For me it’s be curry. Any sort. I miss it.

This weeks art project: turning two cardboard cones leftover from a knitting project into Christmas trees.

Second layer of at ish, again with the assistance of a cat, has been done. Just need to let them dry and then I can show them off.

One fountain pen filled. A Lamy Logo with Robert Oster Yellow Sunshine, because I need more sunshine in my life.

I think I'm about done being constructive for the year? Next year's projects are prepped and ready to go. One book to write, four short stories, an art project I want to start posting in the new year.

So I can go rest now huh? Yeah, let's try that. If my brain will let me.

One fountain pen cleaned. A pilot prera. I had to let it sit in water overnight as the ink (purple - Diamine Majestic) had dried in it, likely due to the summer heat here. It's about as clean as I can get it and now I need to choose what pen and ink to use next.

Another art day. Varnishing the trees I've been painting over the last several days, again with the help of a cat. This time it's the older one, Riley who helped and inspected my work once I was done.
