This won't go as far as many Brits would like. But this is the strongest language Starmer has ever used on Trump.

He's not just critiqued Trump's policy; he's explicitly stated that Trump is motivated by a malign desire to undermine Starmer and his govt.

This is a huge leap in Starmer's narrative.

Then the EU needs to change the investment environment, and clearly, fast!
We need our own technological platforms to build the prosperity of tomorrow. If not, Trump can play with us. He can make us slaves because we actually are slaves then. And we'll have to take for granted whatever he does.

◾️ Being a happy vassal is one thing. Being a miserable slave is something else

“Roadshow of hate” well said!
The racist “Haitians are eating cats” dude is blowing into Minneapolis this Thursday for his roadshow of hate. Be forewarned peeps.

So very true. Our elected representatives need to re-read their job description.
I think part of the reason everyone is so blown away by this Carney speech is it's so long since we heard an actual grown-up articulate serious thoughts about the world. Empty vessels have been making a lot of noise
Mark Carney's speech really is terrific: full text is here and very much worth your time.

💯
It’s notable that the president can go on TV and be a total gutter racist, and somehow this isn’t news in the slightest. Says a lot about the sickness of American society right now.
Trump: "They're paid agitators and insurrectionists. Nobody talks about the fact that $19 billion at a minimum is missing in Minnesota, given to a large degree by Somalians. They've taken it. Somalians. A lot of very low IQ people."

We spoke about the war in Ukraine and what it could mean for all of Europe. And some point I made a suggestion what "we" should do. "Excuse me“, interrupted one of the British colleagues, "Who is we?“ Good question.

The scary thing about the Greenland crisis: there's really no off ramp, other than Trump himself

The Danes have been offering to collaborate on Arctic security for over 1yr. The US hasn't engaged

Hence the goal of EU leaders to get Trump to understand the domestic & intn'l costs of pressing ahead

💯 and if America thinks that Europe is struggling with inertia, then it’s not paying attention
while this may be true in the US, I don't think this will be true abroad -- Europeans and Canadians aren't going to forget this, and while the pace of decoupling may vary depending on circumstance, it's happening
I think a lot of Americans are unprepared for how insanely bad things will get if Trump actually goes for this, but conversely a lot of people on here are underrating how fast things will get memory holed and smoothed over if there’s a climb down

There are many surreal things about Donald Trump suddenly turning geopolitics into influencer drama by publishing world leaders’ DMs – but one standout is Trump truly doesn’t understand flattery might be insincere or tactical. It just works on him. He’s that easy.
