Brain explorer: I study the brain and write short assays, see my website: https://breininactie.com/the-brain-in-action/. R. Feynman: I’m an explorer? I get curious about everything, and I want to investigate all kinds of stuff.

I argue that the important question is not, as commonly assumed, about categorical vs dimensional systems, but rather (agreeing with Meehl) about whether observable surface structure is a reflection of low-level causal mechanisms. Disagreeing with Meehl, I conclude that the answer is usually no. /2

They don't grow mini human brains. They grow increasingly complex structures of human brain cells. Interesting important work, but that is NOT growing mini human brains.

2024 Swedish study on 2.5M people's data:
"Acetaminophen use during pregnancy was not associated with children’s risk of autism, ADHD, or intellectual disability... This suggests that associations observed in other models may have been attributable to confounding."

And often contain overarching interpretations of research (programs) not in the journal articles!

New book— just got my copy! I know people often don’t read book chapters but I think that’s a mistake. They are usually much more reflective and wide ranging than journal articles.

Sure Alexey, you can follow Panksepp. Great scientist but his work is now outdated by a few decades. Anyway the literature is vast so I prefer to sample very broadly and learn from many viewpoints. A single one is always myopic by definition. And scientific disagreements are good thing for science!

We're witnessing the most aggressive, fanatical crackdown on free speech in my lifetime. The speed and breadth of government censorship and private sector and nonprofit capitulation has been astonishing. As has the lack of urgency/silence from people who've long claimed to care about this stuff.

One of the problems is the idea that language is the expression of consciousness.

The point would be (I think) that there must be (a) closure in the loops from thalamus and/or brain stem nuclei to cortex and back which is/instantiates (?) the control parameter (which is external in non-biological or non-brain complex systems). Could that be correct?
