My reading goal for this year was to read at least one book every week, up from last year's total of 21 books.

Well, it's August and I finished my 52nd book!

Yum yum, steak tacos dinner.

Read Parable of the Sower in two days because it's due back today and I hadn't started it yet since we've been so busy with the funeral preparations recently.

Not a book meant to be speedrun, goddamn. I'll need a break before I start the next library book.

Omg, it's us!!! Too bad we got blown up though.

Been reading Ada Palmer's Terra Ignota series this week on the train, currently on the third novel. It's quite jarring emerging from that world after 6 hours back into our own. Have to remember gender and religion are legal after a minute. Thrilling and engrossing series for another conference week.

An idea for a shit podcast: Conversations in the Outfield.

Recorded live during a low-level rec ball game. The outfield players shout at each other between plays and occasionally stop to run for the rare hit that made it their way.

'Tis conference week. Montreal today until Friday, but also Ottawa Thursday to Saturday. Yes, we are doing both simultaneously. Online participation is a boon and a burden.

Haven't had much time for social media recently because I've been busy with work, research, my girlfriend and friends, and things in the community. Tbh, part of why I've been doing better is because I've pulled back from social media so much. So much nicer to have a full life locally.

The only thing I'll say about the cooking discourse is that it's a lot easier to cook at home regularly now that my girlfriend and I eat together often. Twice the hands, twice the brains, easier to motivate cooking for someone else, and less wasted spoiled food I couldn't eat on time alone.

2024 book wrap-up! I set myself an achievable goal of 10 books, so I'm glad I read 21 while finishing my grad courses!

This year I set out to only read books written by women, but I accidentally failed because I didn't know Sheridan Le Fanu was a man 😂 Cheers to another year with more great books!

I gave her the gift tonight and she loved it so much she cried 💛 So glad I saw this at the thrift store last month because it really is perfect for her, and for only six dollars! I also made a gochujang crab mac & cheese for her and her partner to accompany their thrifted gifts.
Every year in late November, my love language of giving gifts clashes with my financial situation once again. I just want to give cute things I made or found to my friends and family 😭

Look at this thrifted musical teapot I bought for my friend!! It's a teapot that has a music box in the base!

Long day, longest night. Marked the occasion with my girlfriend and two great friends. So much fun, and the food was plentiful! Love cooking together with the people I care about most ❤️

Everyone who's ever used OC Transpo needs to watch this documentary. It's 43 minutes and free on YouTube. The care Gio Petti has put into this project for two years is palpable and worth your time. Cannot praise this enough.

This morning at the mall, an old man held the door for me and said "You first, boss!", then turned to actually look at me and stammered "Ma'am, sorry, ma'am!"

Lol it's okay, I appreciated being called "boss" by an old man for once 😂

I like how that Atlantic article from October claiming a lot of elite college students can't read books anymore focused on Columbia University. Why don't you guys walk on over to your teachers college and take it up with Lucy Calkins why the kids can't read. Give some feedback on her curriculum.

Was recognized by someone yesterday as "K's girlfriend", which was really cute. Unsurprisingly, we both had several softball teammates at the lesbian PWHL watch party event last night 😄

Love it when I go to text my girlfriend and I see that she's already in the middle of writing a message to me 🥰
