I just noticed that the actor who plays Mr. Johnson on Abbott Elementary plays the pastor who presides over Lisa's wedding in the Sister Sister finale lol

in the current age, when intellectualism is under attack, one of the most radical things you can do is continue to learn and seek out knowledge

knowledge is, quite literally, power

Every retailer that's like, "Surprise! Cyber Monday sale EXTENDED!" is like every musical act that pretends to end a show with "Good night, we love you!", exits the stage, and then waits one minute for the obligatory call for an "Encore" before sauntering back on stage to play their biggest hit

Today is a good day to make Mychal Threets proud of you. Read a book that brings you joy. Some people read by listening. Some people read by touch. Some people read with their eyeballs. All reading is reading. Remember your meds and have some water!

I just SCREAMED AT THIS NEWS. Everything is bad. Nothing good remains. I am distraught.

Well, after 70+ hours, I finished Bear and Breakfast's story. One of the odder endings I've experienced. The only reason knew that it was over is because I looked it up.
I'm in the endgame, and now I'm mostly just waiting for 30+ 5 star reviews at Pinefall.

quoth the Raven, "Tickle tickle"
Ravens imitate the voice of their person so since this guy has a deep voice, so does his raven. Edgar’s raven might have sounded creepy like this.

Great thread. Prof. Theoharis's book, The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks, is excellent and eye opening! One my favorite things I've read in the past 6 years.
Today is the 70th anniversary of Rosa Parks' arrest. Six myths: 1) She wasn't old or tired. 42 years old that day, she had a "life history of being rebellious" & had spent two decades helping to turn the Montgomery NAACP into a more activist branch alongside ED Nixon and Johnnie Carr.

"O Come, O Come, Emmanuel"

and I can't decide between "Last Christmas" and "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus" lol
What is your favorite "Christian" Christmas song and what is your favorite "Secular" Christmas song?

I will probably always adore "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" for Christian.

And "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" for secular.

The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.

The 1918 Flu pandemic can give you a blueprint for what is happening now. How disabled and ill people are treated & experimented on (then & now), how it coupled with thinness & the push for "healthy" people, the rise of eugenics & fascism. It's all connected.
