You may have noticed my latest C64 repairs have not all gone to plan. So I asked a couple of very generous pals in @adriansdigitalbasement.com and @theretrochannel.bsky.social to lend a hand.
I picked their brains clean!

Here's a Sinclair Microdrive cartridge with a UK pound coin for comparison. We trusted these mini-magnetic tape loops with our valuable data in the 1980s. Totally insane! To be fair, they were actually quite reliable. The tape loop is 5 metres long and stores a minimum of 85 to 100KBytes of data.

It's finally time to start looking at the pile of C64 Silver Labels. And what I found surprised me! That's not clickbait, I really was surprised!

Did an Einstein TC-01 replica board with @peepouk.bsky.social. All good and well, except the keyboard plays a tune - on the boot screen. 🤷 😅

The pic is just to lure people in.
I had a very interesting chat this evening, and one of the subjects was community. It really made me realise just how much a part of everything I do is now about building communities.
It's a slight echo chamber question for here, but how important is it to you?

Drama!
Completely manufactured of course. But I did learn some important bits along the way.
I bought some 74LS Logic Chips from Ali Express. Guess what happened next?

Start the week with a unicorn! No, not the Torch Unicorn though I'd quite like one of those too.

No, there'll be two camps for this one. You'll either instantly know what it is or, more likely, you'll never have heard of it because it never sold.

This is the HH Tiger, aka the Tangerine Microtan 2.

I was watching a live stream of @morefunmakingit.bsky.social some days ago, when I have seen this tool on his desk. I didn’t know that it existed, before. I then did a short research and had ordered it, before the live stream was over. #goatsFoot #pryBar #Wera #Wera127456

Not a fan of repairing tape decks. Too much mechanical stuff to go wrong. But I've learned by accident how to make these Commodore C2N decks work again and here's a video where I share my secrets!

DesTestKernal - a version of DesTest that you can program onto an appropriate PROM as a replacement for the C64 kernal ROM. When cartridges fail you, this little beauty might just get the job done!
