Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the health secretary, posted photos on Sunday of himself and his grandchildren swimming in a contaminated Washington creek where swimming is not allowed because it is used for sewer runoff.

Even if you (wrongly) believe that some immigrants lack due process rights, what’s to stop the government from claiming that *you* are an undocumented immigrant; removing you to El Salvador; citing an “administrative error”; and refusing to do anything to bring you back?

The answer is due process.

“We need to remember that freedom doesn’t mean freedom from shared responsibility. Real liberty includes empathy…While we need herd immunity… what we need even more is to restore the values that make herd immunity possible: trust, cooperation, and a shared commitment to protecting the vulnerable.”
“Public health isn’t the sum of individual choices. It’s our collective agreement to protect the most vulnerable among us: the elderly, the immunocompromised, the uninsured, the people who can’t isolate or work remotely.”
Personal choice has been weaponized to undermine public health

I still can’t figure out when “we can deport you” turned into “we can put you in a hell hole prison in a third country, indefinitely, with no legal recourse.”

Pundits are - in vain - looking to economics and politics when trying to explain Trump's behavior.

But, in reality, the central place to look if we want to understand Trump and his policies is this:

The psychology of dominance.

If you’re continuously stunned by the behavior of gerrymandered GOP representatives in the world of Citizens United, don’t be.

Here’s how to think of them:

They are no longer public servants.

Improving public outcomes is not their goal. Nor do they do better in life…

And previously embarrassed us in front of our NATO allies in Brussels.

“Can you imagine a worse way to persuade people that you will fight for them than agreeing to abandon your most vulnerable friends at the slightest provocation from the playground's meanest bully? I can't.”
I wrote about the practical strategic necessity of doing "impossible" things, the moral and strategic emptiness of making the middle your destination, and the way persuasion requires vision, and vision requires standing for something.

🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave.

Tell them:
1. Vote NO on Cloture
AND
2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill.

Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it.

TODAY is the showdown.

Why is this so hard to understand?
Murphy: "We need to act like a real opposition party in the middle of a constitutional and democracy crisis. That means we should not be moving forward nominees or legislation in the Senate. Ds should not be giving votes to nominee or legislation in the Senate until Rs get serious about this crisis"
