That one person can drag us into a war without consulting or even notifying Congress, or our allies, or fully explaining to the American people why this is necessary, is absolutely bonkers.

Reminder that Congress has the power to stop all of this. Where the hell are they? Hello?

Reminder that our Constitution guarantees due process to ALL persons — not just citizens — and enshrines habeas corpus as a fundamental right.

Either everyone has due process — or no one does.

There is a lot being said right now about the brain drain from academics and that people will not pursue science as a career. While this is possible, I want to be clear that this doesn't have to be a self-fulfilling prophecy. (1/3)

Some grim updates on NSF grant terminations.

❌ ~1,382 grants terminated over a 15 day period

❌ $1.07 billion in total grant value

❌ Half (441 / 902) of the entire Division of Equity for Excellence in STEM portfolio is gone

No indication terminations have stopped.

Couldn’t disagree more.

Medicine and the real world are inextricably intertwined. To advocate for our patients is to engage beyond simple academia.

Essentially, this article argues we should remain detached in our ivory towers. THAT is what causes decreased trust.

Just to be clear, this is a violation of the fundamental ethical principle in clinical trial design called "equipoise."

Equipoise means that no-one is exposed to excess risk just to test the therapy. That's specifically *why* vaccine trials don't use placebo arms.

Ethical violation as POLICY.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr will require all new vaccines to undergo placebo testing, WaPo reports
U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr intends to shift the way vaccines are tested, The Washington Post reported on Wednesday, citing a spokesperson from the HHS.

Despite knowing the people on the search warrant weren't there, the ICE arrest team STILL took this family's phones, laptops, and life savings — and refused to leave a BUSINESS CARD so they could ask to get it back!

This stuff is sadly not unique to ICE; it happens with regular police raids too.

A government of and by a few at the top, who exercise power for their own benefit. Their power and wealth increase as they make laws that favor themselves, manipulate financial markets, and create monopolies that put more wealth into their pockets.

We believe in the Constitution, Bill of Rights, separation of powers, and checks and balances.

The U.S. was founded in opposition to monarchy. We fought for democracy over dictatorship.

What the Trump regime is doing is the antithesis of the values this nation was founded upon.

Every tyrant in history has sought to stifle criticism of himself and his regime.

But America was founded on criticism.

American democracy was built on dissent.

Every institution, group, firm, or individual that surrenders to Trump’s wanton tyranny invites more of it.
