I flew to Cape Town earlier this year on United and the “Polaris” lounge in ORD was closed so I went to the regular club lounge. Then in EWR got to try the Polaris lounge. Main difference was the lower tier one was much more crowded. Fancier one had showers and nap rooms and food was nicer.

So cool that they have recommendations for locations near each library with details about how to get there by different modes, and accessibility info too!
RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET
TENNEY PARK
402 N. THORNTON AVE
Details:
• Distance from
Hawthorne
Library: 1.5 miles
• Drive: 8 min
• Bus: 15 min (#6, runs every 30 min, includes 10 min walking)
• Walk: 31 min
• Bike: 12 min
Accessibility:
This park has paved, multi-use trails that meander through the park and around the lagoon. Small sections of the trail are crushed limestone. A large, concrete pier that has paved sidewalks and frequent benches will take you out on the water. The terrain is very flat. Restrooms are available.
<< Birding Guide »>
enney Park is situated along the shore of Lake Mendota with scenic bridges, a lagoon, and aches. The variety of habitat makes it a great birding spot. In the winter, before Lake Mendota is frozen over, scan the water along the beach and breakwater for migratory waterfowl like indra Swans, American Coots and different species of ducks. You may also see Bald Eagles inting over the open water! Check the trees for woodpeckers and the elusive, camouflaged own Creeper that blends in with the bark as it scuttles up a tree.
early spring, Golden-crowned and Ruby-crowned Kinglets will flit through the trees and Red-nged Blackbirds will start calling "Conk-la-reee!" Listen for the thin, high-pitched calls of Cedar axwings, who love the berry-laden trees, and the "O Sweet Canada" song of White-throated arrows in the bushes.
immer is full of nesting birds, like the Cliff Swallows that nest under the bridges at Tenney Park mud-formed structures, or the Purple Martins that nest in the white, spherical bird houses stalled here. You might also see other swallow species snatching bugs over the lake, Green

Borrowed a birding backpack from my local library. Adult and child size binoculars, a bird guide and a kids bird guide too. Super excited to check out Horicon Marsh during migration season! Libraries rock!
Two binoculars cases on top of a Birding Backpack Guide. Sibley Birds East book is on top of the guide.

When I took my child to the children’s hospital for an audiology appointment they didn’t have a single thing in the emails or on the website about the bus route that goes right there or where bike racks were. Lots about parking! Also they validate parking but nothing for people taking the bus. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I used to work for Salesforce and when we had a meeting there it was super easy to take the express bus from the airport to the transit center. It was great and we had some nice dinners.

We also saw "pluralistic ignorance": MOST PEOPLE SUPPORTED NON-CAR TRAVEL, BUT THOUGHT THEY WERE THE MINORITY! 65-69% said they support non-car travel more than other people, which can't be true. Does the majority assume their own view is odd and so go quiet in debate, thus enabling loud minorities?
Part of a diagram showing some data from the UK. This shows, for example, how when discussing non-car travel, 65% of people thought their own level of support was higher than the public's support, and only 6% thought their own level of support for non-car travel was lower than the general public's support

I have rechargeable hand warmers as well for really cold days. Say, below 20°F
mpusto.bsky.social
I would also say just be prepared for some trial and error. I wrote down the temp and what I was wearing so I could dial in how many layers depending on the temp. I get really cold hands so eventually got some lobster claw gloves in addition to the pogies

To his credit, Mayor Moonbeam—as he was dubbed—forged ahead: “A few loud critics can make anything look controversial. I recall the media doing full coverage of the opening, choppers overhead, filming the impending chaos—and it was much ado about nothing. It had zero impact on traffic from day one.”

Children aren't little adults. Their faster breathing rate makes them MORE vulnerable to air pollution from smog & fires. Higher temps mean more asthma attacks & diseases. We must protect their health. Learn more: #momsky

Yeah she lives in a pretty car centric area but she can walk or bike her trike to the grocery store and church, but not to a lot of her other engagements. I tried to show her a great place near me that is on a bus line, has a library, coffee shop, gym, hair salon, etc. She liked it 💡

In my family’s case, I *wish* my mom was a non-driver. I don’t let my kids ride in her car (rare since she lives 2000 miles away). She is not safe! She told me that you might as well put her in a nursing home if I take the keys away. 😩

It's one thing to talk about the 1 in 20 Americans who live in households without cars. But it's another to talk about all the people who live in households with fewer cars than people who need to drive to participate in an autocentric society, particularly kids, elders, and people w/disabilities.
