grease floats.

when it flows in sewage and into our plants, it thickens as temps fall, separating in our settling tanks.

the churning water forms grease globs that build like snowballs, and operators remove them so they don’t clog the process.

listen. don’t pour grease down your drains.

Whereupon she told me to go in the freezer and get out what she would need. Well. I mean. She was on a lot of meds.

BUT NO! The freezer was stacked with Bob Evans mashed potatoes. She threw them in a saucepan with two (2! TWO!) sticks of butter and a dash of garlic powder

Talking about perfect timing: Aventon launched an e-bike trade-in program last Friday. They are offering riders a $200 bonus when trading-in an e-bike, *including Rad Power Bikes*, toward a new Aventon. It appears that the trade-in credit might be able to be stacked with Black Friday deals as well

Great article. Especially the “no risk of carbon monoxide poisoning”. I still have detectors at my house but I don’t think I need them anymore.
💡 In a new piece on the Project Drawdown Insights hub, Heather McDiarmid, Ph.D. breaks down five reasons heat pumps are awesome for your comfort, your community, and the climate!

Fascinating!
NEW: I wrote about British churches installing heat pumps, in some cases in 1,000-year-old buildings! Decarbonisation may not be easy, but many view it as an act of faith.

This is a special feature to mark The Reengineer’s first anniversary! Spread the word! 🥳

So Pakistan is *paying* Qatar to *not* deliver LNG because even including this penalty payment their solar PV and battery spending is much better value for money and saves them billions.

How fascinating!

our crossing guards do mission impossible and I am so thankful for all of them, but JFC the fact that we need "Guards" to simply ensure drivers don't run over school children?
This is what is so twisted about our auto obsessed culture that we don't even see how we've completely normalized this.

IMO, the heat pump water heater credit was the best deal for homeowners in the IRA. Upgrade by the end of the year to qualify for the tax credit.

If you are on gas, operating costs are just slightly lower. You will save loads vs everything else.
The government is giving away $2,000 to homeowners who upgrade their water heaters — but the incentives disappear in under two months
The increased performance translates to lower electric bills.
