One way I have found to mourn someone is to set up a monthly sustaining donation to a mutual aid effort they cared about. If you can join me in honoring Alice Wong, @sfdirewolf.bsky.social with a sustaining donation today, please do. Thank you Alice, and I will not let the bastards grind me down.

I am gutted to learn of @sfdirewolf.bsky.social (Alice Wong’s) passing. She was always a warm friend, a wonderful spirit, and someone who fostered my own growth. She helped me see that, as a #disabled person with chronic illness, I matter—I am whole. I’ll be posting some of Alice’s work. ❤️ forever

Our beloved Alice Wong has joined the ancestors. It was one of the great honors of my life to call Alice my friend, co-author & co-conspirator. She was a true genius, a force of nature the likes of which the world has never seen before. I love you, Alice, and am equal parts grateful and devastated

Energy justice advocates in Oregon are asking for a ban on utility shutoffs until April 1, 2026, one of the longest durations of policy protections i have seen so far. This is terrific, and we need many many more states to follow suit. The ban would be universal, for all customers.

Thanks, Betsy. That second bit is a good reminder. I salute everyone who can do both. & ofc for many, organizing IS both--showing up for that rapid response or fighting those cuts IS taking care of your dear people. But also, compassion to those where the tasks are different & we have to choose.
First take care of yourself and those closest to you (ye olde airline safety instruction. . . .)

And may we all exercise compassion for everyone who can't be in the thick of organizing right now because they are focused on more immediate personal/family issues. We each have those seasons.

Reading this from @mskellymhayes.bsky.social is also helpful as I pull back from community participation a bit to meet a family health emergency, while trying to stay connected to what I will eventually, again, need to do w/others. organizingmythoughts.org/burnout-is-n...

Unhappy to report that shit still sucks
Hey, I am hoping to be back around here a bit more soonish. My dad's been in the hospital. He's now in a rehab place to regain some strength & stability, and if that works, I'll be able to pick up some more of my normal things like Neighborly Actions & lukewarm takes on community participation

We can and must keep going. Here's a resource with a script to call your state's leaders about enacting a shutoff ban today if you have 10 minutes to act today.

We need this nationwide because of the end of SNAP, SSI, and the economic crisis we're in. bsky.app/profile/kate...

Have you ever heard of "heat or eat"? It's what it's called when people have to choose -- groceries or paying their heating bills.

No SNAP means more people won't be able to afford energy either. If you've already donated, take one more step and call to support an emergency ban on utility shutoffs👇

Periodically I am saying this! They have yet to invent a non-annoying person
People who don't want to take part in the annoying parts of being in community suffer under the delusion that They are the only not annoying person on earth. It is thus an imposition that they, the least annoying person on earth, should have to deal with being annoyed
When we live in an individual mindset, being asked to do anything for others without profit or advancement of some kind feels useless, uninteresting, or burdensome.
