The raid certainly had that look. I was wondering why the reporting was that apartments were emptied of furniture, mattresses were being thrown into dumpsters, etc. What would you need to do that for, in an "immigration raid?"

every time you read a story about how no-strings-attached direct payments to vulnerable, marginalized or otherwise needy people are a big net profit to the society disbursing them, and you ask "why doesn't america do that?", please know that this is the answer why
mac from always sunny saying "but who versus? who are we doing it versus?" because he cannot understand a plan that does not have a victim

These Valancourt deals are always worth watching but especially this month as they roll out daily. Some of my very favorite reads of recent years have been from them

Today's $2.99 spooky Kindle deal is Alan Ryan's CAST A COLD EYE. This is one for those who like a good, slow-burn, literary ghost story. Grab it today only for just $2.99 (sorry, due to copyright restrictions it is not available in UK/Commonwealth). www.amazon.com/Cast-Cold-Ey...

Amazing how many “journalists” have infinite class solidarity with peddlers of cryptofascist sophistry and none at all with those putting their lives and bodies on the line in the name of truth

A violent MAGA extremist broke a journalists leg at ICE. He just got out of surgery.

I do not get why the media ignores all the extreme violence on us.

Moral: “Reddit” often just means “whatever I dislike at this particular moment” and the people who throw it around that way are not worth trying to impress. I like Dropout, and I’m unlearning the instinct to check over my shoulder to see if I’m passing the cool test

A while back on Twitter someone was like “Remember when it seemed like True Detective might go full cosmic horror?” and a bunch of the cool kids rushed to be like “hmmm not EPIC BACON enough for you???” I gently challenged that framing and a big account told me to kill myself

I really think aside from all the things that make Chappell Roan cool on like a cultural level, a huge reason for her explosion is that her melodies just bang and folks have been starved for legitimate bops

Waiting at the vet, being subjected to an endless barrage of Taylor Swift, and you know? Aside from the whole fascistic “love this bullshit or else” thing going on, it’s just amazing that this bitch hasn’t written a decent hook in a decade. Should’ve happened by accident at some point in there

For this to make sense they’d have to stop moderating entirely. When you delete Palestinian fundraising accounts, ban people for making jokes, and hide posts that criticize you, you open yourself up to critique regarding what you choose not to do. Your product is the code? Cool. Go away then.
hailey.at
No, you are not our product. Our product _is_ the code that we write and distribute for others to use. For others to take and build their communities. Making the users the product is exactly the model that never works and continues to never work.
mr-e-motion.bsky.social
Okay then stop deleting posts and accounts. If the product is the code, stick to the product

"Many American Jews sharply disapprove of Israel’s conduct of the war in Gaza, with 61 percent saying Israel has committed war crimes and about 4 in 10 saying the country is guilty of genocide against the Palestinians, according to a Washington Post poll."

Increasingly, I feel as if these self-proclaimed coalition builders talking about "winning the middle" aren't talking about the people they hope to win over. Rather, they're talking about themselves, and defining what it will take to keep them in the tent. Not opposed to purity tests; issuing them.

The understanding between them is really incredible, the heart of the movie for me. When he says, “I know what a bad customer is,” and she says, “… yeah,” the deliveries of both are just perfect

Saw a great movie called Decorado at Fantastic Fest that really lays out how capital/fascism specifically target our imaginations, like a beautiful haunting hate letter to Disney, highly recommend looking out for it

Watched ANGUISH (1987) and was shocked to basically find a meta-textual horror masterpiece. How has a movie this hypnotic, stylish, anxiety-inducing and weird gone so long without so much as a blu-ray release. If you can find a copy, go in knowing nothing.
Michael Lerner in the film ANGUISH (1987). A worried looking man in stark shadows stands askew in a void of darkness, fists raised to chin level A woman lit in green leaves a movie theatre audience. On the screen, another movie theatre audience is watching a black and white film. A cut-out black and white image of a woman's eye fastened to a pendulum. it is in motion. Michael Lerner, a man in glasses and a dark coat. he's lit in red from the side and his glasses reflect light so they glow
