Today is both St Jerome's feast day and Canada's National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Believe it or not, I wrote something that brings those two subjects together: bibleandcriticaltheory.com/issues/volum...
two photos: on the left, a photo taken in 1885 of William Cameron, Hudson's Bay employee and a young Horsechild (son to Indigenous leader Big Bear); on the right Vincenzo Foppa's 15th century painting of Jerome at his cave.

Make no mistake, everything that’s happening in the United States is being significantly enabled by the right wing oligarch capture of media.

Every other country needs to do everything possible to keep that from happening where they are.

Including protecting the CBC from Poilievre here in Canada.

Such a delight to walk alongside @mrapomquet.bsky.social this weekend. 10 years since his first SK trail walk with our dear friend Hugh and the history & folklore society. Read a review of his book about that first walk: reviews.skbooks.com/good-walk-the/

One might suggest to the prime minister that neither the efficiency nor the services of the CBC or Via Rail would be in any way improved by the purchase of $20 billion worth of F-35 jets, so we could start with the cuts right there.

Personally, my boycott will stay irrespective of their tariffs. They have attacked & threatened Canada and continue to do so daily. And about half their country thinks that's just fine. So, tariffs or no tariffs, I'm done with them, at every level.

CBC/Radio-Canada was just named Broadcaster of the Year at the New York Festivals Radio Awards! 🏆
Matt Galloway’s The Current also took home Gold for On-Air Talent.

While politicians threaten to defund CBC, the world recognizes its value.

Cape Breton waterfall tourism a silver lining for wet Maritime weekends
After eleven straight weekends with at least some precipitation through much of the Maritimes, the extra water has made the region's waterfalls shine, says a local writer.

Not sure we realize the role education played in vaccination and pandemic outcomes. Canada's high education level helped us weather vax disinformation.

Two things the Carney govt should do on top of all the good promises they’ve made:

1. Fulfill the Trudeau promise for electoral reform and make voting in Canada ranked ballot.

2. Make it mandatory to have security clearance for every party leader & cabinet of a governing party.
