He's the same person as he was in high school, ranting about the 'beauty' of torture and objecting to the idea of students cleaning up after themselves instead of the janitors.

This was always the case but the shouting at the end makes it so clear.

To be fair his own level of understanding isn't that much shallower or deeper than of those leading the US at the moment.

Mostly the Amazing Digital Circus fandom honestly.

What fandom does it remind you of?

Crap I just got my hair cut yesterday.

Can't believe I didn't make this connection the moment it happened.

It's so dumb but it's almost certainly true.

I recall someone saying on the news that clearly Maduro couldn't be heading to New York in a battleship for trial. Even though that's what they said would happen and is happening.

During the press conference, I think he might have actually confused the VP and opposition leader with one another at some point.

Given the sample size of 1592, that seems very probable.

The new right in America has:
- eroded personal liberties
- excused rampant stupidity and corruption at every level
- substituted a neo-pagan blood and soil cult for Christianity
- attacked the University systems
- systematically defunded liberal education
- leaned into political and moral nihilism

Thank you for the reminder. Do you remember how Dom Lucre was also later invited to a White House press briefing?

Few know since the media is quieter about CSAM distributors visiting the White House under the current administration than they would be for any other.

It is real in that people treat it as real and have done so for some time, and in that some people feel such an obligation to their family.

Though I don't think one should have a moral obligation to "honor one's heritage" - whatever that might mean.

Honestly it reminds me a bit of the ease and frequency with which people joke about certain other tragedies - e.g. 9/11 - though but it feels more shocking because Epstein's crimes came to light even more recently and because a lot of those likely complicit in his crimes are still free and in power.

Epstein is one of the most disgusting monsters to come out of our society in modern times.

He is also a meme because of how frequently he is discussed.

And internet anonymity has a desensitizing effect on people.

Maybe I'm not online enough but 130 people pestering you seems like a high number.

Maybe once he's out of power.

He sexually abused an adult woman (fits the common definition of rape but maybe not New York's stricter legal definition) and there was a successful lawsuit for it between his terms.

He was still elected because the electorate is dumb and the media wants him to win.

I remember before he had even been picked as VP, reading about his connection to Yarvin, someone openly pro-monarchy and anti-democracy.

Even with how extreme I knew American reactionaries to be, that took me back, and the fact it's not cited more often is a shame.
