Is there anything in Albemarle County’s soon to be approved Comprehensive Plan that indicates the county is serious about addressing its housing shortage and affordability problems?
mtgillikin.bsky.social
It’s a step in the right direction but Schumer looks so past his prime in that video. Also the video is too long…

Yes after posting that I realized I should have directed more blame towards the county. Hopefully @sallyforsupervisor.bsky.social will help make it happen!

Argued with the city about improving public transportation to PVCC and was told not enough people use it as is. Not enough people use it because it doesn't work well! You can't count the students who aren't able to be counted!

It’s ridiculous to me that there’s not a multimodal path from the city to PVCC and Monticello
Blocked sidewalk on Monticello

This stretch of Monticello Avenue should have protected bike lanes ASAP

personally I think it’s neat that literally everything I warned Council about at that meeting has eventually come out via a steady progression of 404 Media articles, I love being right
mtgillikin.bsky.social
It’s so bad. It’s one of the great injustices of our time (which is really saying something given everything else going on).
mtgillikin.bsky.social
Gotcha. Senior living facilities have so many problems. You basically have to be either really lucky or be rich and buy your way into something decent
mtgillikin.bsky.social
What was the explanation for the increase?
mtgillikin.bsky.social
Yep! Serious difficulties knowing what the truth is

This earned an email

Last sentence is awkwardly worded but I think you get the point
Dear Councilors, Mr. Sanders, and Chief Kochis,
The city just put out a news release about presenting Flock pilot results to the community. CPD is providing one day notice for tomorrow's meeting and three days notice for the Thursday meeting.
Furthermore the release claims that the meetings are at "established community meetings." I'm assuming that for Fifeville this is referencing the FNA meeting. However that meeting is on Thursday, not Tuesday when the Flock meeting is scheduled.
If the city is serious about getting community input on Flock, it would provide more notice. This is very very similar to the timeframe provided for the ill conceived ordinance to criminalize homelessness.
The continued disrespect for the community in matters of formulating policing policy needs to stop. The quality of the public safety interventions the city implements is directly tied to the quality of input the city receives and considers on these issues. The continued failure to treat community input as a box to check rather than a thoughtfully considered resource will only hamper our ability to address serious public safety issues.

I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Matthew

reminder that public comment signup for Thurday’s ACPS Board meeting opens at 8:30am tomorrow through a form on the Board’s website, if you would like to speak in support of Allison Spillman as she handles the disingenuous right wing campaign against her
tjsleakyroof.bsky.social
yeah the repeatedly failed state legislature candidate who moved here in 2020, the right wing radio host who faildoxes people under a pseudonym, and the candidate Allison trounced for her spot on the Board are all trying to make this a thing. really think it’s important to nip this in the bud.
tjsleakyroof.bsky.social
want to boost this. guarantee TPUSA is going to try and stack it, but they simply do not have the local numbers to do so *if* we recognize it’s coming and respond in kind. I think it’s critical to set a tone that we will back our local officials against disingenuous right wing bullshit.

👇🏽 School board elections are consequential!👇🏽
mtgillikin.bsky.social
The city school board election has 4 candidates for 3 spots. I will be voting for Lisa Torres, Zyahna Bryant, and Dashad Cooper. Emily Dooley's support for SRO's and, in my opinion, poor leadership in guiding the school division's approach to school safety means I will not vote for her.

I will note that Dashad Cooper has expressed support for SRO's, which is disappointing to me. But he appears more flexible on the topic than Dooley and to be genuinely interested in listening to a range of perspectives on the topic.

Tech came very closing to tying it on the final play of the game. Very good game
mtgillikin.bsky.social
The intersection of Copeley and Ivy after the women’s soccer game was really unsafe. I don’t think Copeley has been correctly adjusted to account for the sidewalk closed due to construction and police were not doing a great job of letting pedestrian traffic move like it needed to.

I wouldn’t ignore my wife’s advice though. No good ending there
mtgillikin.bsky.social
There are situations when I would recommend ignoring me. Local housing politics is not one of them.
