🌍 Hartlaub's Turaco (Tauraco hartlaubi) The Hartlaub's Turaco is a striking, medium-sized bird endemic to the montane and sub-montane evergreen forests of Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Its appearance is characterized by bright green plumage, a glossy blue-black crest, a red orbital ring, and a prominent white "comma" patch in front of the eye, while a flash of crimson is visible in its flight feathers. They are arboreal and frugivorous, moving with great agility through the canopy, and are typically encountered as shy, but very vocal pairs or small family groups that defend a territory with loud, resonant croaking calls. No subspecies are recognised. This is a Pied Imperial Pigeon at Lincoln Zoo from March 2024, it obviously has no problem at opening wide for the dentist.

This Black Guillemot is in its winter plumage with a striking black-and-white pattern, appearing mostly white below with black barring on its back and black wings. It head is reflecting on the calm water next Scapa Pier, and its bright red right leg is visible beneath the surface.

🌏 Rufous Treepie (Dendrocitta vagabunda) The Rufous Treepie is medium-sized bird with a long, graduated, bluish-grey tail tipped in black. It has a black head and chest, and a bright rufous (reddish-brown) body, with a noticeable white wing patch. Native to the Indian Subcontinent and parts of Southeast Asia, it thrive across various habitats from open forests and scrublands to urban gardens. An agile, arboreal, and omnivorous member of the crow family (Corvidae), the Rufous Treepie is very conspicuous, often seen in pairs or small groups. It is known for its loud, musical calls and adaptable feeding habits. Up to eight subspecies are recognised. Gemini 3 (Edited) Conservation status: Least Concern (IUCN 3.1) Fun fact: It is known to engage in a rare relationship called cleaning symbiosis with large mammals like the Sambar deer.
