Just back folks. I'm honestly going to try and see as many as I can of the
#BirdOfTheDay entries. Bear with me. I spent quite some time watching Black Headed Gulls today. Keeping my best shots for another day but I like the splash and reflection in this one. #red #birds #EastCoastKin
Black-headed gull in flight just inches above deep blue water, wings fully spread and glowing white in the sunlight. Its red bill is open as droplets splash behind it, suggesting it has just snatched prey from the surface. The bird’s reflection ripples below, slightly distorted by gentle waves, mirroring the motion and adding a sense of speed and precision.

So named as there are both light and dark forms which can also vary in colour but the adults do all have a white tail with a black pre-terminal bar. The only breeding Hawk in the Falklands this individual has a fluffed up white front slightly barred towards its flanks, grey head, rusty brown back and beautifully mottled grey wings. It talons at the end of its yellow toes and legs are formidable.
