Week 7 of making things my entire personality, after a bit of a life events hiatus: this week's episode of Game Changer on DropoutTV.

While not strictly breakfast listening (I usually listen to it as I'm falling asleep), the podcast The Empty Bowl, now on its 99th episode, is a soothing low-stakes conversation about the latest and greatest in cereal innovation. www.themcelroy.family/emptybowl

This morning's breakfast - "Cinnamon Bun Inspired" pancakes from a Trader Joe's mix, and bacon. The pancakes turned out a little dry, but serviceable (we only had faux milk on hand, which probably affected the result). Still better than frozen pancakes.

Week 6 of making things my entire personality until it stops being fun. This week - breakfast. Is it the most important meal of the day? Is cereal a dessert or a breakfast food? Is cereal soup? What about brunch?

Alas, my whole Week 5 personality is work/life balance or lack thereof. Back next week, and in the meantime go support your union strike fund!

so, to conclude:

we’re leaving behind us in 2023 the faith we put in the institutions that didn’t protect us, but we’re also leaving behind the way their failures made us cynical and despairing. we’re manifesting the kind of relentless strategic optimism that gets shit done at the ground level.

I’m doing my year-end tarot workshop, and on past New Year’s Eves I’ve pulled anchor cards for anyone who wants one. but I can never get through them all and I feel bad! so this time I’m just going to do a little three-card spread for all of us from Yoshi Yoshitani’s Tarot of the Divine deck.

John Paul Brammer's Hola Papi! In and Out list was a fun read, and the one that really got me was "What's In: Library Cards"

It was a very cool surprise to find my Savage Rebellion series, the final book of which, SAVAGE CROWNS, came out this year, on Tor Dot Com’s Reviewers’ Choice roundup of the best books of 2023. I’m grateful to Vanessa Armstrong for reading the trilogy and shouting it out. www.tor.com/2023/12/13/t...

Pokémon Go appreciation post - walking around downtown on a lunch break and seeing bunches of other people doing the same when the app first came out was absolutely a delight.

I'm old enough to have played Pokémon Red on Gameboy, maining Charmander, with my sibling playing Squirtle on Blue. Playing was a significant enough experience in my life as a gamer that the name I made up for my trainer has been my go-to in the decades since.

Week 2 of making things my whole personality until doing so stops producing dopamine or I get distracted. Pokémon! Pocket Monsters.

Shoutout to the Lego Friends Advent Calendar! The last couple days have been a pizza oven, cafe table, and an assortment of food and pet treats to prepare. Lots of play potential there!

Grateful to Scalzi for the comfort watch recommendations. I enjoyed watching Noelle for the first time as I addressed holiday cards. (Did you know it is $1.50 to send a card internationally? I look it up every year, think about getting global stamps, and then don't do that.)
