Committing war crimes and/or murder is a right that can be reserved?
This is really appalling: Rep Adam Smith tells me that in a briefing, Pentagon officials said they reserve the right to kill people who are "affiliated" with their list of "narco-terror groups."

But under questioning, they wouldn't define what "affiliated" means!

When it comes to murdering fishermen on the high seas, Donald is lawless and careless, but when it comes to finding excuses not to feed Americans, he's a precise bureaucrat, obsessed with following the law.

“he broke his leg”?? or ICE broke it for him??
A WILD ONE: A man broke his leg during an arrest by ICE at a car wash south of L.A.

ICE has held him under 24/7 guard at a hospital, registering him under a pseudonym, for *37 days* without telling him why.

A judge has ordered his immediate release.

not only absurd. the practice is actively counterproductive to children developing into productive, healthy, functional adults. we’re affirmatively, by law & custom, damaging at least an entire generation. probably more than one.
These stories are totally insane. CPS investigated a small-town Virginia mom *four* times for..letting her kids play outside unsupervised. That used to be called a "normal childhood." Absurd that we now require helicopter parenting by law. reason.com/2025/08/09/c...

Science is effectively dead in the US for at least the next 3½ years, and will then take another several years to even get started again. Canceled research doesn’t just uncancel itself, and scientists who find opportunity elsewhere won’t just come flocking back.

The damage is generational.

Jennings was a sure-fire fit in the prior defensive scheme as a sturdy edge-setter.

His fit in this upfield, attacking scheme not as ideal.

Let me qualify what Josh is saying. It is quite clear that the Constitution requires a census of all persons. It’s quite clear that past Supreme Court cases support this proposition. (For instance, the recent census question case makes no sense if persons doesn’t include immigrants.)
/1
Let me expand on this point. The Constitution is quite clear that you can't distinguish between kinds of persons in running the Census. And that is especially about apportionment for Congress. The original language makes it pretty clear when it talks about "free persons". But the 14th amendment ...
As Wessel states, now bulldozing the Census. It's critical to note that not counting people "in our Country illegally" violates the constitution. It doesn't speak of citizens or legal status, simply "the whole number of free persons".

2/ made this more clear and expanded it since the authors of the 14th amendment were extremely clear that they didn't want the count to be in any way based on the status of people, citizen, non-citizen, various states of freedom or wealth. Anything. It says explicitly that apportionment ...

It's infuriating that the entire political universe understands why this is happening - Donald Trump and Stephen Miller are gutter bigots whose nativist politics are rooted in their all-consuming hatred of nonwhite foreigners - but for some reason we can't say it out loud.
Wow. Had not realized that Columbia’s settlement with Trump admin included a commitment to decrease international student enrollment. In what way does this help “combat antisemitism,” which is supposedly the administration’s objective?
