I barely cracked open most of the books I was supposed to read, yet I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and graduated cum laude. I participated in discussions, latched onto esoteric themes or patterns, and winged it. There’s an art to bullshitting that AI will never capture.

I’ve never read The Merchant of Venice, but I wrote a paper about the dichotomy between Portia and Jessica’s approach to defying the law (and men) the day before it was due after my Shakespeare professor begged for “anything but R+J”. I got an A. Brains can do it better than AI. And it’s fulfilling!

I wrote a 15 page report on heraldic symbolism in medieval armor and weapon design for my art history class the night before it was due (8am class). Made up 90% of it (only found one book for reference) and got an A. GenAI could fucking never.
wrote 20 pages on Faulkner's The Bear four hours before final papers were due on trucker pills and coffee and cigarettes and got an A, fuck you.
You people couldn't hang with real slackers.

Looks delicious! 😋 Those bamboo steamers are the best. I got one from work a couple years ago and it’s one of the best things I’ve ever gotten.

Blueberry in the pancake is okay, but blueberry ON the pancake is better. Same is true for almost anything added to a pancake, though chocolate is a notable exception.

I have a cold, and it’s the kind where your chest feels like an abandoned beehive until you cough. The timing isn’t great, but it’s a helpful reminder for me to prioritize my health and not force myself to work through it. Also, going to bed early is nice actually?

As someone who was very young when the dotcom bubble popped, I don’t have a meaningful metric to compare this to from personal experience, but: This seems bad! Not really sure what to do to prepare for it except cry.

"The hundreds of billions of dollars companies are investing in AI now account for an astonishing 40 per cent share of US GDP growth this year... In a way, then, America has become one big bet on AI."
America is now one big bet on AI
It’s seen as the magic fix for every threat to the US economy

I’ll take about seven orders of that, to go.

A thread of largely good advice for folks as we get older. We have one preciously short life and deserve to live it safely and fully.

Those who are 35+, what advice do you have for people just entering their 30s?

I believe in you, Mariners. 2025 will be the year you finally make it to the World Series. #GoMs🔱

Seattle has a reputation for drama, don’t we? 😅

Same, and tbh there are some days where my phone is close to dead by the time I get home. 😭

Season one of The Sisters Grimm is streaming now on Apple TV+! We made this show for kids, but parents will enjoy it, too, because, like the books it’s based on, it’s smart and doesn’t talk down to anyone, which I’m really proud of. Watch it here and watch it a lot! apple.co/thesistersgrimm

I use this as well and it’s done a great job of flagging images. Super helpful.

The best-case scenario is another company buys the studios/IP’s and lets current employees keep their jobs. And that’s not the most likely one. I feel sick. This isn’t just throwing a grenade into the industry. It’s dropping a nuke onto us.

Tonight’s session of #SpaceGirls was so good. Players committed to what characters would do in the moment, whether it was wise or even good. A crisis averted, but a personal secret revealed with immense guilt for discovering it. All while my poor character continues to be tortured. So messy!

There are some situations where AI can be helpful, like recapping meetings, identifying themes, or suggesting test cases. It will always have less accuracy, depth, and ROI for many applications. And it can be costly to both build and maintain because it’s only as good as its source material. 🤦‍♀️
n7memo.bsky.social
They want to automate playtesting?! A deeply subjective piece of game development that benefits most from real human beings?! The plot isn’t just lost, it’s in an alternate universe. That’s also three disciplines’ fears confirmed of AI taking their jobs: voice acting, art, and QA. This is absurd.

Wait was EA’s big GenAI push a bid to convince potential buyers that it could lower operating costs after a purchase to help pay for debts??

They have like four whole game studios making the Battlefield series, you can’t run a CoD-competing juggernaut with automation.

Interesting section on EA's £55 billion takeover, I'm sure this is all gonna work out so well...
"The deal is a huge bet that artificial intelligence can significantly cut EA's operating costs, allowing the equity consortium to manage a large debt load on a company that historically carried limited net debt.
Al is already widely used across Silicon Valley to accelerate many kinds of computer programming. In games development, it can be used to replace voice actors and create backdrops and other assets, as well as automating play testing to avoid bugs before release."
"The investors are betting that Al-based cost cuts will significantly boost EA's profits in coming years, people involved in the transaction told the Financial Times."

Is there a list somewhere of all the boosters we should be getting? I’m sure I’ve fallen behind on something…

I haven’t paid much attention to baseball in years, but with the Mariners having an amazing season and bananaball kicking off a national tour, I might have to change that. They’re the only team that’s never been to the World Series and it would be a bright spot in a shitty year if they changed that.
