the enthusiasm for generative AI would not have been possible without prior decades of capitalist conditioning to view works of art as products, rather than acts of culture and shared human life
I think the fundamental gap here is that non-creative people think that creative people make things for the end product, when in fact it’s the act of creation and not the end point that makes it worthwhile.
I have grown to believe that excessive wealth does something to your brain that is analogous to a serious head injury

one insidious thing about gen AI is it's not just causing us to mistrust dodgy images, it's also making us mistrust images that look perfectly normal. this is gaslighting in a very literal sense bc the technology is undermining the trust we have in our own ability to perceive reality!

yeah, this take makes more sense to me than the idea that a pm who doesn't know to talk to indigeneous communities before announcing a pipeline is somehow playing 4d chess. (gift link, unless I messed it up)

lrt: I did have a moment of thinking that dunking on people for not knowing the current iterations of european mythology is making a lot of assumptions. but more importantly, it suddenly feels like we need more romantasy where people bang non-european mythology

One of the cruelest tricks society played on creative people was planting the idea that being proud of your work is somehow unseemly and egotistical.

You made a thing! You like it! You SHOULD be proud of it. Brag all you want!

is the issue with big brother players in this format that they get too stuck on executing a particular plan they came up with in the hotel room, rather than playing the game as it lies? which is kind of how bb works, but is so not how this game works, kevin jacobs #thetraitorscanada

Again, whatever happens, sports at this level is about living in the moment and feeling the emotions, which you do not get to choose

I spent yesterday's Blue Jays brain fog talking to a sleep expert who works with professional sports teams.

Pat Byrne had some interesting things to say about why the Jays have an advantage over the Dodgers while in LA.

I think about this advice a lot: start your project now, today, even if it'll take you 10 years to do, because the time is going to pass anyway. Time is going to march on! Might as well have something in progress!

well this would definitely ruin my life specifically. (landlord routinely complains about not being able to force me out so he can sweep up those post-2020 rates. i think i am supposed to feel sorry for him?)
In particular, they want leases to no longer necessarily remain in effect indefinitely, so that landlords have more options for creating tenant turnover.
